RIYADH: 黑料社区 underscored its ambition to lead the global tourism transformation as it hosted the largest-ever UN Tourism General Assembly in Riyadh, marking 50 years of international collaboration in the sector.聽

The four-day event brought together representatives from more than 150 countries, including ministers, global tourism leaders, and industry experts, to discuss the future of travel, innovation, and sustainable development.聽

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb said the gathering comes at 鈥渁n important juncture in the journey of international cooperation and joint action under the umbrella of UNWTO,鈥 adding that it unites nations 鈥渢o elevate the global tourism sector.鈥澛

He emphasized that the tourism industry has proven to be 鈥渁 key driver of economic growth and social development,鈥 improving lives worldwide. 鈥淎s part of UNTGA26, we reaffirm our commitment to highlighting the vital role of this sector by strengthening collaboration with global tourism leaders to promote sustainability and prosperity in global tourism,鈥 he said.聽

Al-Khateeb noted that this is the first time the assembly has been held in the Arabian Gulf, describing Riyadh as 鈥渢he city that combines authenticity and modernity, rich history and a promising future.鈥澛犅

He said the session reflects shared global priorities and 鈥渉ighlights the vital role that the tourism sector plays in supporting the growth of the global economy and building bridges of cultural communication.鈥澛

The minister added that Riyadh is hosting the largest General Assembly session in the organization鈥檚 history, describing the turnout as a global affirmation of the growing importance of tourism and proof of what can be achieved by uniting efforts and goals.聽

Under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, 黑料社区 has succeeded in transforming its tourism sector into a main pillar of the national transformation journey, achieving the objectives of Vision 2030, and serving as a key factor in showcasing the Kingdom鈥檚 authentic values, rich heritage, and national identity to the world.聽

Tourism is one of the pillars of modern development, integrating with several sectors 鈥 from the economy and culture to sports and art. The sector contributes more than $11 trillion to the global economy and provides more than one in ten jobs worldwide, said the minister.聽

He said developing human capital is essential to meeting the sector鈥檚 future workforce demand, estimated at 43 million new jobs over the next decade.聽

鈥淲e believe that innovation and technology are a driving force for developing the sector, and we are aware that we live in an era in which artificial intelligence has changed the landscape of global tourism,鈥 he said, adding that 黑料社区 is investing in AI and modern innovations 鈥渢o enhance the human touch that distinguishes the tourism sector and the personal connection that visitors seek.鈥澛

At the social level, Al-Khateeb emphasized that the Kingdom is committed to strengthening the role of local communities and ensuring that inclusivity is firmly embedded in the heart of tourism by enhancing the participation of women as a key partner in tourism and economic development.聽

鈥淲e, in the Kingdom, work in integration with our partners in the public and private sectors to protect our diverse environmental, archaeological, and cultural treasures, and to use them to build a sustainable tourism sector that benefits future generations,鈥 he added.聽

UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili highlighted the assembly鈥檚 role in setting the agenda for the future of tourism, with a focus on artificial intelligence and digital transformation driving sustainable and inclusive growth. 聽

He praised the Kingdom for introducing the e-visa 鈥 the simple but powerful step that changed everything 鈥 and commended the Crown Prince for spearheading the reforms under Saudi Vision 2030.聽

鈥淎s we look around us here, we see those dreams becoming reality. Living proof of what we should be and determination can achieve. I will never forget the great things the Crown Prince invited us to be working with this year.鈥澛

He noted that collaboration with representatives from across the world is vital for sustainable and inclusive growth.聽

Pololikashvili said the country is 鈥渙ne of the most ambitious and powerful-looking nations,鈥 investing in tourism at an unprecedented scale.聽

鈥淭he results speak for themselves 鈥 hosting the G20 summit, now this General Assembly, and you will see Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup in 2034,鈥 Pololikashvili said.聽聽

The Kingdom's commitment to tourism has been constant, and this commitment has delivered remarkable success 鈥 100 million tourists and most through this, he said.聽

Pololikashvili described establishing the UN Tourism Regional Office for the Middle East in Riyadh as one of the greatest honors of his career.聽聽

In a video message, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said: 鈥淚t's a milestone as the General Assembly marks 50 years of UN Tourism. Tourism is a powerful force for good. It brings people together, builds bridges between cultures and opens vessels to understanding and even peace.鈥澛

Guterres noted that global tourism arrivals are at an all-time high, with new destinations emerging across the Middle East and Africa, adding that growth must be 鈥渋nclusive and sustainable,鈥 benefiting local communities and safeguarding cultural and environmental assets.聽

RIYADH: Tourism continues to play a crucial role in driving economic diversification across the Gulf region, with the sector viewed as a key contributor to sustainable growth, according to a senior official. 

Speaking at the 26th session of the UN Tourism General Assembly in Riyadh, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi underscored the region鈥檚 collective efforts to upgrade infrastructure and enhance service quality in line with the sector鈥檚 rapid transformation. 

He also underscored the GCC鈥檚 commitment to aligning with international tourism shifts to consolidate its position as a leading destination. 

Praising 黑料社区鈥檚 leadership in the global tourism landscape, Al-Budaiwi said the Kingdom鈥檚 efforts reflect 鈥渜ualitative initiatives in enhancing joint international action and establishing a more prosperous and sustainable tourism ecosystem.鈥 

He emphasized the strategic importance of tourism for the region, noting that 鈥渢he GCC countries pay great attention to tourism and its related sectors, viewing it as a pivotal tributary for economic growth and the diversification of income sources.鈥  
He added: 鈥淭he GCC countries鈥 continuous keenness to develop advanced infrastructure and raise the quality of services in the tourism sector, in line with the rapid transformations in this vital sector, which contributes to consolidating their position as a leading global destination.鈥    

The 26th session of the UN Tourism General Assembly, held on Nov. 9, convened in Riyadh under the theme 鈥淎I-Powered Tourism: Redefining the Future.鈥 

The event was officially opened by Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb and included wide-ranging discussions on innovation, technology, and sustainability in the tourism sector. 

More than 160 delegates from around the world convened in Riyadh for the assembly 鈥 the first time the event has been hosted by a GCC country. 

The gathering underscores the region鈥檚 growing influence in global tourism, with participants engaging in four plenary sessions, multiple committee meetings, and two sessions of the Executive Council. 

Ahead of the assembly, UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili emphasized the transformative power of tourism, while Al-Khateeb described the event as a defining moment for charting the industry鈥檚 future. 

The assembly marked another step in the Kingdom鈥檚 broader vision to align regional collaboration with global trends in tourism development.
