  • Deals signed to strengthen food security and local industry at Saudi Agriculture Exhibition in Riyadh
  • Four-day exhibition features nearly 450 companies and organizations from 34 countries, including 11 national pavilions, showcasing innovations in plant, animal and fish production

RIYADH: Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli launched a new digital platform to enhance plant and animal health services during the 42nd Saudi Agriculture Exhibition in Riyadh.

The platform, developed by the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plants Pests and Animal Diseases, known as Weqaa Center, enables individuals and businesses to access electronic services and track requests online.

Key features include early detection of the red palm weevil, pest diagnosis, animal immunization booking, livestock site disinfection, and permits for slaughtering and poultry housing, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

Al-Fadhli, who also chairs the Weqaa Center, said the initiative advances digital transformation in the agricultural sector and aligns with Vision 2030 goals to boost government efficiency and service quality.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, the Weqaa Center signed three strategic memoranda of understanding with the Agricultural Development Fund, King Faisal University, and Klybeck Life Sciences.

The deals aim to enhance cooperation in prevention and control, plant and animal health, research, training and national industry in support of food security and sustainability, the SPA reported.

The four-day exhibition, held at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center until Thursday, features nearly 450 companies and organizations from 34 countries, including 11 national pavilions, showcasing innovations in plant, animal and fish production.

The MoU with the Agricultural Development Fund focuses on empowering farmers and livestock breeders through sustainable pest and animal health management and financing solutions.

The agreement with King Faisal University supports scientific and training collaboration in areas such as surveillance, early warning and pest control, while the deal with Klybeck Life Sciences aims to localize veterinary vaccine production and strengthen the Kingdom鈥檚 animal health security.

Meanwhile, the National Research and Development Center for Sustainable Agriculture also signed an MoU with Van der Hoeven Horticultural Projects to advance sustainable agriculture and high-tech greenhouse solutions through applied research and talent development.

During the exhibition鈥檚 opening day on Monday, 28 agreements and MoUs worth more than SR3.5 billion ($933 million) were signed between public, semi-governmental and private entities to boost agricultural investment and innovation.

Organizers reported that the agricultural sector鈥檚 contribution to 黑料社区鈥檚 gross domestic product rose to SR119 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach SR140 billion by 2030.

Running alongside the event, the International Future of Agriculture Summit gathers local and international experts to discuss food security, sustainability and the future of agri-tech.

  • Achievement reflects 鈥榦ur growing role in shaping the future of global medicine,鈥 CEO聽Dr. Majid Al-Fayyad says
  • Procedure involved removing a 4.5-centimeter brain tumor with robotic arms from a 68-year-old man who had been experiencing severe headaches

RIYADH: In a historic leap for robotic medicine, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh has performed the world鈥檚 first robotic intracranial tumor resection.

This groundbreaking achievement sets a new global standard in neurosurgical precision and recovery.

The procedure involved removing a 4.5-centimeter brain tumor with robotic arms from a 68-year-old man who had been experiencing severe headaches and loss of concentration.

Remarkably, the patient was discharged fully conscious within 24 hours 鈥 a recovery time nearly four times faster than that of traditional brain surgeries.

Dr. Homoud Al-Dahash, KFSHRC consultant for skull base tumors and lead surgeon, stated that the robotic system provided exceptional precision and control, which enabled surgeons to navigate critical neurovascular structures with a high level of safety.

鈥淭he patient鈥檚 same-day discharge, fully conscious and without complications, represents a new benchmark for neurosurgical innovation,鈥 he added.

Guided by a 3D optical system, the one-hour surgery enabled surgeons to operate with a clear, magnified view of the brain.

Advanced image-guided navigation technology ensured precise tumor removal while protecting vital areas of the brain.

KFSHRC CEO Dr. Majid Al-Fayyadh linked the milestone to the hospital鈥檚 ongoing transformation journey.

鈥淭his achievement reflects KFSHRC鈥檚 growing role in shaping the future of global medicine,鈥 he said.

鈥淚t aligns perfectly with our vision, where innovation and patient-centered care define the future of healthcare.鈥

Before the advent of robotic neurosurgery, similar procedures required manual removal under a surgical microscope, where precision depended heavily on human steadiness and visual clarity.

Robotic systems now provide enhanced instrument stability, tremor elimination, and superior visualization 鈥 redefining global standards of safety and precision in neurosurgical care.

This landmark procedure adds to KFSHRC鈥檚 expanding portfolio of robotic surgical breakthroughs.

The institution previously performed the world鈥檚 first robotic heart transplant and robotic liver transplant, earning international acclaim and solidifying its standing among the world鈥檚 leading centers for robotic and minimally invasive surgery.

KFSHRC has been ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa and 15th globally among the world鈥檚 top 250 academic medical centers for 2025.

It was also recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Middle East by Brand Finance 2024 and listed among Newsweek鈥檚 World鈥檚 Best Hospitals 2025, Best Smart Hospitals 2025, and Best Specialized Hospitals 2026.

These accolades reaffirm its position as a global leader in innovation-driven patient care.
