Forests in 黑料社区 are cornerstones of ecological stability, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and food security.

Under the Saudi Green Initiative and the long-term pursuit of planting 10 billion trees and restoring 40 million hectares of degraded lands, 黑料社区 is achieving remarkable progress, drawing on rigorous research, dynamic collaborations and effective field implementation.

The General Directorate of Forests alone has successfully planted more than 3.5 million trees across diverse ecosystems, from mountains to valleys and coastal zones, bolstering carbon sequestration and strengthening the Kingdom鈥檚 natural defenses against desertification and land degradation.

Equally significant is the identification of more than 645 sites classified as forest lands, which we are actively protecting and rehabilitating to safeguard genetic diversity and conserve invaluable wildlife habitats.

Alongside these field efforts, the National Forest Inventory of 黑料社区 represents a pivotal step toward a comprehensive understanding of the Saudi forests.

By systematically surveying and classifying forest lands and analyzing their vegetation cover, this project will enable more precise planning and informed decision-making for forest conservation and sustainable development.

These integrated measures exemplify the Kingdom鈥檚 commitment to sustainable forest management, balancing ecological imperatives with socioeconomic needs.

Our strategic forest plan guides these achievements. We act to establish protective boundaries, install educational signage and deploy advanced monitoring systems to prevent illegal logging, wildfires and other environmental threats.

We also have a specific program to involve local communities in the conservation and sustainable management of forests, generating ecosystem services and sustainable non-wood forest products such as honey and aromatic plants.

These integrated measures exemplify the Kingdom鈥檚 commitment to sustainable forest management, balancing ecological imperatives with socioeconomic needs.

Looking ahead, the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification will continue to build on best practices through a multifaceted approach that includes restoring and safeguarding forests in mountainous regions, valleys and mangroves.

By expanding greening efforts, reinforcing forest conservation, involving local communities and harnessing cutting-edge research to monitor ecological health, the General Directorate of Forests at the NCVC reaffirms its dedication to maintaining 黑料社区鈥檚 forests as vital pillars of environmental balance, biodiversity and sustainable development for current and future generations.

Pakistan rains kill nearly 670 since June as authorities warn of more monsoon spells
  • NDMA chairman says Pakistan going through 7th spell of 2025 monsoons while 9 to 10 spells predicted聽
  • Rains and flash floods have killed over 300 people since Friday in Pakistan鈥檚 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province聽

ISLAMABAD: Torrential monsoon rains and subsequent floods have killed almost 670 people in Pakistan since late June, with the disaster management authority warning on Monday that at least two more heavy spells are expected before the season tapers off in September.

Heavy rain in Pakistan鈥檚 northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province halted rescue and relief operations for several hours on Monday before resuming in a region where flash floods have killed over 300 people since Friday. Officials fear the toll, already among the deadliest in recent years, could rise further as dozens remain missing.

鈥淲e are going through the seventh spell of monsoon of 2025,鈥 National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik told a press briefing.

鈥淭he predictions that we made about the monsoon from June to September, there will be at least 9 to 10 spells, which will impact different areas of Pakistan.鈥

He said approximately 670 people had died and about 1,000 had been injured since the monsoons began in the last week of June. Up to 90 people were also still missing.

Malik cautioned that the situation could intensify, with cloudbursts and localized rains forecast from Aug. 23 through early September.

鈥淚f horizontal flows mix with vertical flows, this can be a more dangerous situation, which we have seen in 2022,鈥 he said, referring to devastating rains and floods that killed over 1,700 people and caused over $30 billion in losses three years ago.

The NDMA chief explained that 鈥渉orizontal flows鈥 caused by rapidly melting glaciers in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir regions had already destroyed bridges and other infrastructure. Vertical flows, he said, came in the form of cloudbursts and prolonged rains.

鈥淲hen these flows converge, they trigger serious emergencies,鈥 Malik said.

He said 425 relief camps had been activated and convoys of trucks carrying food were being dispatched to badly hit districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Buner.

The Pakistan Army had deployed engineers and special units for search and rescue, while field hospitals and Combined Military Hospitals were on alert to treat the injured.

鈥淏y September 10, we will have comprehensive national data on casualties and damages,鈥 Malik said.

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad, announced that the federal cabinet would donate one month鈥檚 salary to flood victims in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

鈥淭his is not the time for politics, it is the time for service and to heal people鈥檚 wounds,鈥 Sharif said, according to an official statement.

He directed federal ministers to personally oversee the restoration of electricity, roads, water and other infrastructure in the affected regions. The Minister for Kashmir Affairs was tasked to supervise distribution of relief goods, while the finance ministry was instructed to provide NDMA with additional resources.

鈥淯ntil the last affected person is helped and basic infrastructure is restored, the relevant federal ministers will remain in the field,鈥 the statement quoted Sharif as saying.

The PMO said 456 relief camps had been set up nationwide and more than 400 rescue operations conducted so far, with losses to public and private property estimated at Rs126 million ($455,000). Aid distribution under the Prime Minister鈥檚 relief package, alongside medical teams and medicines, was ongoing, it added.

BUNER

Buner district in KP province has been the worst hit in the latest rains that began on Friday, with over 200 deaths.

Heavy rain in the flood-hit areas, including Buner, forced rescue teams to halt relief efforts for several hours on Monday, a regional government officer, Abid Wazir, told Reuters.

鈥淥ur priority is now to clear the roads, set up bridges and bring relief to the affected people,鈥 he said.

Residents in Buner鈥檚 Bayshonai Kalay village panicked and ran to higher ground after a water channel that had earlier overflowed and caused major devastation started swelling with the fresh rain on Monday, according to Reuters witnesses.

Rescuers from local government, the disaster management authority and the army used excavator machines to clear the roads and streets from mud, fallen trees and electric poles.
Relief goods have been sent to the affected areas, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said in a recorded video statement on Monday.

Food, medicine, blankets, camps, an electric generator and de-watering pumps are included in the relief goods, the authority said in a statement.

Buner, a three-and-a-half-hour drive from the capital Islamabad, was hit by a cloudburst, a rare phenomenon in which more than 100 mm (4 inches) of rain falls within an hour in a small area, officials said.

In Buner, there was more than 150 mm of rain within an hour on Friday morning, they said.

More heavy rain was expected across Pakistan until early September, officials said.

鈥淭he current weather system is active over the Pakistan region and may cause heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours,鈥 the disaster management authority said on Sunday.

GCC property market set to extend rally in 2025: Markaz
  • 黑料社区鈥檚 property market maintained strong performance in the first quarter
  • UAE鈥檚 real estate market delivered strong results

RIYADH: The Gulf Cooperation Council鈥檚 property market is set to extend its growth momentum into the second half of the year, supported by lower interest rates, government investment, and resilient investor demand, a new analysis showed.

In its latest report, Kuwait Financial Center, also known as Markaz, noted strong activity in 黑料社区, the UAE, and Kuwait during the first half of the year, driven by rising property values and strong sales across the residential, commercial, and hospitality segments.

The analysis underscores the expansion of 黑料社区鈥檚 real estate sector as the Kingdom seeks to position itself as a leading business and tourism hub by the end of the decade.

The Kingdom鈥檚 Real Estate General Authority expects the property market to reach $101.62 billion by 2029, with an anticipated compound annual growth rate of 8 percent from 2024.

鈥淲ith macroeconomic indicators showing signs of continued recovery, Markaz expects real estate markets in Kuwait, 黑料社区, and the UAE to maintain upward momentum through the second half of 2025,鈥 Markaz said.

It added: 鈥淟ower interest rates, fiscal support, and sustained government investment in economic diversification are anticipated to drive growth and market confidence.鈥

The analysis said that while some markets face fiscal pressures, the overall outlook for the GCC real estate sector remains 鈥減ositive,鈥 offering 鈥渙ngoing opportunities for investors, developers, and stakeholders.鈥

黑料社区: diversification boosts demand

黑料社区鈥檚 property market maintained strong performance in the first quarter, underpinned by a 4.3 percent year-on-year rise in the real estate price index and a 37 percent annual increase in sales, the report said.

Markaz also said that demand for commercial properties remains strong, supported by non-oil economic growth and sectoral diversification.

In July, a report by credit rating agency S&P Global echoed similar views, highlighting that international retail brands attracted by social and economic shifts in 黑料社区 are poised to drive further growth in the real estate sector.

S&P Global also pointed to favorable prospects for residential real estate, with young Saudi families increasingly relocating to urban centers in search of work opportunities.

In June, global consultancy Knight Frank also highlighted the Kingdom鈥檚 growing property market, noting that rents for Grade A office space in Riyadh reached SR2,700 ($719.95) per sq. meter by the end of the first quarter, up 23 percent compared with the same period last year.

Markaz reported that 黑料社区鈥檚 fiscal deficit is expected to widen to 4.9 percent of gross domestic product, from 2.8 percent in 2024, largely due to lower oil prices.

Although reduced revenues could impact government spending and project awards, the Kingdom has indicated plans to sustain investment in economic diversification, the report added.

鈥淏ased on macroeconomic indicators and real estate trends, Markaz believes that 黑料社区鈥檚 real estate market remains in the accelerating phase in the first half of 2025 and is expected to sustain this momentum through the second half,鈥 added Markaz.

UAE: transactions hit record highs

According to Markaz, the UAE鈥檚 real estate market delivered strong results in the first quarter, with transaction values reaching 239 billion dirhams ($65 billion).

Dubai generated 142 billion dirhams in sales across 45,077 transactions, representing a 30 percent year-over-year increase.

The report added that residential, office, and hospitality segments will continue to drive the UAE鈥檚 property sector, supported by strong demand, interest rate cuts, rising tourist inflows, and limited supply in prime locations.

In 2024, Dubai recorded a total transaction value of 761 billion dirhams, up 20 percent from 2023. The emirate also logged 226,000 transactions, a 36 percent annual rise, and attracted more than 110,000 new real estate investors, up 55 percent year on year.

Dubai also continued to outperform other global markets in rental yield at 7.6 percent as of May, compared with 5.3 percent in New York, 3.2 percent in Singapore, and 3.1 percent in London.

鈥淢arkaz forecasts that the UAE鈥檚 real estate sector will continue its upward trajectory in the second half of 2025, marked by steady appreciation in land prices and rental rates in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi,鈥 the report said.

Kuwait: recovery gains pace

Kuwait鈥檚 real estate market also continued its recovery in the first quarter of 2025, supported by rising land prices and rental values in the investment and commercial segments, the report said.

The value of real estate sales reached 896 million Kuwaiti dinars ($2.93 billion) in the first quarter, representing a 45 percent year-on-year rise.

Sales in the residential and commercial sectors grew 38.5 percent and 22.9 percent, respectively, while the investment segment advanced 49 percent during the same period.

The number of transactions rose 20.9 percent year on year, with residential and commercial deals climbing 11.7 percent and 163.6 percent, respectively. The investment segment recorded a 29.7 percent increase, supported by a stable rise in the expatriate population.

The report projected Kuwait鈥檚 real GDP to grow 1.9 percent, rebounding from a 2.8 percent contraction in 2024. The recovery, fueled by higher oil GDP and steady non-oil activity, including project spending, consumer demand, and legislative reforms, is expected to bolster demand in the commercial and industrial property markets.

鈥淒espite evolving macroeconomic dynamics, the outlook for the GCC real estate sector remains positive, with solid investor interest, government-backed initiatives, and sectoral diversification continuing to support long-term growth,鈥 said Markaz.

鈥淢arkaz believes that real estate will remain a key contributor to the region鈥檚 economic development through the second half of 2025 and beyond,鈥 it addded

  • At least four migrants died after falling into the sea from their rubber dinghy on Monday
  • The incident took place off the coast of the Karaburun district, the coast guard command said in a statement

ISTANBUL: At least four migrants died after falling into the sea from their rubber dinghy on Monday off the western coast of Turkiye, officials said.
The incident took place off the coast of the Karaburun district, the coast guard command said in a statement.
Officials rescued two migrants and found four bodies, and were still searching for more missing with the help of a helicopter, drone, five boats and a larger vessel.
It was not immediately clear how many migrants the boat carried or what their nationality was.
Many migrants embark on the short but perilous route between the Turkish coast and the nearby Greek islands of Samos, Rhodes and Lesbos, which serve as entry points to the European Union.

  • Greece鈥檚 conservative government last month suspended all asylum claims for migrants arriving by sea from North Africa

ATHENS: Authorities in Greece say more than 120 migrants were intercepted off the island of Crete early Monday, the latest in a series of arrivals despite a suspension of asylum claims and plans for tougher detention rules.
Two boats, carrying 58 and 68 people and believed to have departed from Libya, were stopped and the passengers placed under guard at temporary shelters. More than 100 other migrants arrived on Crete over the weekend after strong winds eased.
Greece鈥檚 conservative government last month suspended all asylum claims for migrants arriving by sea from North Africa, a move it argued helped deter crossings that peaked in July at more than 2,500 in a single week.
The government remains at odds with regional authorities in Crete over a plan to build a permanent transit facility on the island. It is preparing draft legislation, to be submitted after the summer recess, that would mandate imprisonment for migrants whose asylum claims are denied and require ankle monitors during a 30-day compliance period before deportation.
