Man City hope for Rodri return this season by listing Ballon d’Or winner in Champions League squad
  • Rodri has set a target of about April to return to play
  • The Champions League quarterfinals start April 8

MANCHESTER: Manchester City showed faith in Rodri potentially returning to action this season by registering the injured Ballon d’Or winner on Friday in their Champions League squad for the knockout phase.
UEFA set a midnight Thursday deadline to submit updated squad lists for European competitions. With a limit of three new signings in the midseason transfer window allowed, City left out teenage defender Vitor Reis who joined from Palmeiras last month.

Rodri has set a target of about April – “six to seven months” after tearing the ACL in his right knee against Arsenal on Sept. 22 – to return to play. The Champions League quarterfinals start April 8.
The English champion have a daunting task to stay in the competition until then without star midfielder Rodri, who scored the winning goal in the 2023 final against Inter Milan.
Man City face Real Madrid in a two-leg knockout playoff, next Tuesday and on Feb. 19. The winner will play either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16.
New signings who are included in coach Pep Guardiola’s squad for the Champions League are midfielder Nico Gonzalez — who can stand in for Rodri — forward Omar Marmoush, and defender Abdukodir Khusanov.

Formula E Unveils GEN4: Fastest, most sustainable electric race car
  • New model represents a significant leap for electric racing
  • GEN4 set to be fastest, most advanced, and most sustainable car in championship’s history

RIYADH: The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has unveiled its new GEN4 car, and fans will only have to wait until the 2026-27 season to see it in action.

The new model represents a significant leap for electric racing, emphasizing the championship’s commitment to continued innovation and sustainability, Saudi state news agency SPA reported on Friday.

The GEN4 is set to be the fastest, most advanced, and most sustainable car in the championship’s history.

It boasts up to 600 kW of power (over 815 horsepower) and features an active all-wheel-drive system operational during all phases of the race.

The car has a strong emphasis on sustainability, having been designed using 100 percent recyclable materials and incorporating at least 20 percent recycled components, reaffirming the championship’s leadership as the most sustainable motorsport series in the world.

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said the GEN4 is far more than a race car. Co-developed with the FIA, he said that “it stood as the most advanced, demanding, and sustainable machine Formula E ever built, redefining what is possible in performance and environmental responsibility while meeting the aspirations of professional drivers and inspiring future talents.”
