RIYADH:聽黑料社区 is open to readjusting its聽goal of attracting 150 million visitors by 2030 if those numbers are achieved ahead of time, according to the deputy minister of destination enablement聽at the聽Ministry of Tourism.聽
Speaking in an interview with Arab News on the sidelines of the first day of the Future Hospitality Summit taking place in Riyadh from April 29 to May 1, Mahmoud Abdulhadi explained that聽targets are adjusted based on performance.
鈥淎s we hit our target seven years ahead of target,聽our 100 million target, we therefore聽now have a new target,鈥澛燗bdulhadi said.聽
鈥淚鈥檓 sure if we were to hit that new target with a significant overperformance in terms of the timeline, our targets would also be adjusted,鈥 he added.聽
The deputy minister went on to stress that this聽does聽not聽affect聽the ministry鈥檚 plans聽significantly聽as the entity works聽to ensure the sector is sustainable聽and聽can grow.
鈥淭he fact that we鈥檝e been able to absorb the 100 million tourists聽in the last year, and we will continue to see growth in that figure,聽it just means that some of our plans may need to be accelerated, some of them may need to be modified a little bit,鈥澛燗bdulhadi highlighted.聽
鈥淏ut we鈥檝e聽always been planning to make sure that聽that sustainability and that growth is聽embedded in everything that we do,鈥 he affirmed.聽
The deputy minister clarified that there will be no聽change in terms of聽how聽the entity聽will deliver. Instead, there may be some modifications regarding its聽tactical priorities as well as聽delivery timelines.聽
Regarding the ministry鈥檚 secondary role as the聽sector鈥檚 regulator,聽Abdulhadi underlined that the organization is working to promote聽the industry from an investment perspective to create a visitable and sustainable field.
鈥淚n order to聽do this, that聽enablement聽means that we are聽cascading down our national tourism strategy and our national targets onto聽and through our partners in the government, be they the other ministries, because, as you know, tourism is a very horizontal sector; we cover a lot of of other industries,鈥 he empathized.
Abdulhadi also mentioned that the ministry is聽working聽with the regional development authorities聽to聽help聽ensure聽that they are delivering on the promise made at the national level to conceive these destinations correctly.聽
鈥淪o again, we are the regulator,聽and we are there to make sure that the environment is in the right place, it is in the right regulations, and it is in the right attractiveness to investors and visitors alike,鈥 the deputy minister said.聽
鈥淲e are definitely聽working with the private sector to help facilitate for them, where investors come in and they bring in operators. We try and聽assist both parties on聽making sure that the product that is delivered meets our聽ambitions,鈥 he added.
Discussing the pledge聽to create one million additional jobs in the sector,聽Abdulhadi explained how the ministry is currently聽engaging with several international operators聽and providers of training facilities and education.
鈥淲e鈥檝e committed to train聽over 100,000 Saudis a year,聽and in order聽to do this, we鈥檝e teamed up with with聽the best people globally and domestically in order聽to deliver on those training programs,鈥 Abdulhadi concluded.聽
