  • Investment in the sport is part of wider Vision 2030 strategy to establish Kingdom as global hub for sport, entertainment
  • 黑料社区 is preparing for its biggest cricket event, with November鈥檚 World Cricket Festival in Jeddah

RIYADH: 黑料社区 is making significant strides to establish a prominent role in international cricket, marked by a plan by the 黑料社区n Cricket Federation, through its investment arm the Cricket Investment Company, to partner with Infinix.

The Kingdom鈥檚 investment in cricket is part of a wider Vision 2030 strategy to establish the country as a global hub for sport and entertainment.

Significant resources are being directed toward diversifying the economy, engaging youth, and attracting international events.

Alongside football, Formula One, boxing, and tennis, cricket is now a priority 鈥 reflecting both its global reach and strong connection to the Kingdom鈥檚 expatriate community.

黑料社区 is preparing for its biggest cricket event, with November鈥檚 World Cricket Festival in Jeddah 鈥 a first-of-its-kind, four-day spectacle that combines international cricket with concerts, cultural showcases, and family entertainment.

The CIC, as the commercial arm of the SACF, has been established to accelerate the development and commercialization of cricket in the Kingdom.

鈥(The) CIC will work hand-in-hand with strategic partners like Infinix to grow the game from the grassroots level, expand participation, and build pathways for local talent to strengthen the national team,鈥 said the SACF.

Prince Saud bin Mishal Al-Saud, the SACF chairman, told Arab News: 鈥淚t marks our first strategic partnership between CIC, which is the investment arm of the federation, and the private sector.

鈥淚t鈥檚 part of our initiative to enable the private sector within 黑料社区, and Infinix is the first investment between both sides. It has multiple programs and multiple cities, and we look forward to getting started together. It鈥檚 going to be a unique experience, (and) will boost cricket in 黑料社区, for sure.鈥

Aligned with Vision 2030, CIC鈥檚 mission extends beyond commercial value and seeks to enhance quality of life, foster community engagement, and position 黑料社区 as a rising destination for cricket.

As an enabler and strategic partner, CIC is committed to unlocking the sport鈥檚 potential while ensuring it leaves a lasting social and cultural impact across the Kingdom.

Welcoming the partnership, Prince Saud said: 鈥淭he partnership aligns with our core objectives as a federation. We are working on developing the game at its grassroot levels by creating opportunity, professional set-up, and a better quality of life for everyone involved in the sport in 黑料社区. It is a natural alliance with Vision 2030.鈥

The WCF鈥檚 centerpiece will be the F2 Double Wicket World Cup, featuring 10 international teams in a unique two-player format. Matches will be fast and unpredictable, with innovations such as the super sub rule and the fireball over, designed to create dramatic highlights for live fans and global streaming audiences.

By night, the event will transform into a music and cultural festival with headline performers, making the WCF a full 鈥渄ay-and-night鈥 experience.

According to the federation, the WCF is projected to generate SR51.6 million in its debut year, with long-term valuation targets beyond SR150 million by 2028.

More than a tournament, it will position 黑料社区 as a new home for world cricket 鈥 uniting sport, culture, and commerce on a scale the Kingdom has never seen before.

The partnership between Infinix and CIC is not limited to the WCF. As announced during the WCF鈥檚 launch in Riyadh, over the next 18 months franchise-based leagues will roll out across 黑料社区 and the wider GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council), creating a year-round calendar of professional and community events.

These events include: F2 Double Wicket World Cup, launching at WCF in November; TX Arabia (10-over cricket), a high-energy 10-over league designed for younger audiences and festival appeal; The Saudi Corporate Premier League, cricket tailored for corporations and business houses, blending competition with business networking; F20 Foundation Day Cup, returning in early 2026 for its second season as 黑料社区鈥檚 national T20 tournament; and the Gulf Premier League (soft ball edition), a mass-participation league designed to capture the Gulf鈥檚 huge recreational cricket community.

These initiatives form a year-round cricket program聽 鈥 from grassroots participation to global festivals聽 鈥 ensuring 黑料社区 is not just hosting one-off spectacles but building a sustainable cricket industry.

Infinix, through TurboCat Solutions, delivered its first success in February 2025 with the Saudi Foundation Day Cup, in collaboration with Axis United Trading Company. The nine-day T20 tournament was the Kingdom鈥檚 first large-scale cricket event, streamed live worldwide and featuring international stars.

Infinix, led by its CEO Waqqas Alvi, built its cricket journey on FIREOX, an activewear and sports equipment brand with a global footprint. FIREOX has also been the official kit provider of the Saudi national cricket team since 2022, cementing its role at the heart of the Kingdom鈥檚 cricket story.

Beyond sportswear, Infinix is creating a broader cricket economy with programs designed to connect grassroots players with professional pathways and global events.

Alvi said: 鈥淔rom outfitting the Saudi national team to reaching athletes in more than 50 countries, FIREOX is proof that Saudi-led brands can compete globally. Now, with our events and digital platforms, we are taking the same ambition to cricket itself 鈥 building not just a sport, but a movement.鈥

Liverpool thrashed by Palace, holders Newcastle through in League Cup
  • Under-strength Liverpool slump to 3-0 home loss to Palace
  • Newcastle beat visitors Spurs 2-0 to reach quarterfinals
  • Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea reach last eight

LIVERPOOL, England: Second-string Liverpool were thumped 3-0 by Crystal Palace as Ismaila Sarr struck twice for the visitors in the League Cup on Wednesday, booking the London side鈥檚 spot in the quartefinals and piling more misery on Arne Slot鈥檚 struggling side.

Holders Newcastle United dispatched Tottenham Hotspur 2-0, Arsenal beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0, Manchester City came back to down second-tier Swansea City 3-1 and Chelsea edged past Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-3 in other fourth-round ties.

Slot rested most of his regular starters 鈥 as did the other major Premier League clubs 鈥 leaving Liverpool to suffer their sixth loss in seven games across all competitions.

The match at Anfield was fairly even before Sarr scored in the 41st minute when Liverpool defender Joe Gomez attempted to clear the ball but teed it up instead for the Senegalese player, who unleashed a blistering shot past keeper Freddie Woodman.

In a torrential downpour that matched the Reds fans鈥 mood, Sarr doubled Palace鈥檚 lead seconds before the break when he latched onto a lovely reverse pass from Yeremy Pino.

Liverpool were reduced to 10 men when Amara Nallo was sent off in the 79th minute for taking down Justin Devenny, his second red card in two senior appearances.

Pino added to Liverpool鈥檚 misery with the visitors鈥 third goal in the 88th minute.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not of Liverpool standards to lose six out of seven,鈥 Slot told Sky Sports.

Asked if Saturday鈥檚 Premier League game at home to Aston Villa was a must-win, Slot said: 鈥淓very Liverpool game is a must-win.鈥

The night marked the first time Liverpool had lost a domestic cup match at Anfield by three goals without scoring since February 1934 in a 3-0 defeat by Bolton in the FA Cup.

It was also the league champions鈥 third loss to Palace this season.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 know how often this happens when you play the champions three times within three months, and you win three times. So credit to the players,鈥 said Palace boss Oliver Glasner.

Holders Newcastile down Spurs

Newcastle reached the last eight thanks to goals from Fabian Schar in the first half and Nick Woltemade in the second to oust Spurs in an electric atmosphere at St. James鈥 Park.

鈥淩eally pleased, I think when you make the (eight) changes that we did, you hope to see a performance that鈥檚 in line with our identity and our expectations, and I thought we got both today,鈥 said Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.

鈥淚t鈥檚 most important the attitude is right from minute one and there鈥檚 that will to win that you need, and we had.鈥

Arsenal鈥檚 18-year-old Ethan Nwaneri broke the deadlock in the 57th against Brighton at the Emirates when he latched onto a pass from Myles Lewis-Skelly and fired into the bottom corner.

Bukayo Saka doubled the Gunners鈥 lead in the 76th minute when he pounced on the rebound from a Jason Steele save.

鈥淎 very special evening for obvious reasons,鈥 Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said. 鈥淲e made 10 changes, we played players that have never played together.

鈥淭wo debuts for Max (Dowman, who is 15) and Andre (Harriman-Annous, 17). That feeling is unique.鈥

Championship side Swansea stunned Pep Guardiola鈥檚 City 鈥 who are 28 places above them in England鈥檚 football pyramid 鈥 when Goncalo Franco struck in the 12th minute.

But Jeremy Doku equalized with a deflected effort just before halftime, Omar Marmoush put City ahead in the 77th when he broke free from a defender and fired into the roof of the net and Rayan Cherki wrapped up the win with a goal in added time.

Chelsea looked poised to thrash Wolves as goals from Andrey Santos, Tyrique George and Estevao gave them a 3-0 lead at Molineux. But the hosts showed some life late on with a goal from David Moller Wolfe after Tolu Arokodare had got one back.

Chelsea鈥檚 Liam Delap was sent off in the 86th but his teammate Jamie Gittens made it 4-2 three minutes later before Moller Wolfe got his second of the night in added time.

Frenchman Nicolas Mahut delivered an emotional farewell to professional tennis after his doubles defeat at the Paris Masters.
Mahut, 43, won five Grand Slam doubles titles in a career spanning 25 years, but he is best known for losing the longest professional tennis match in history against American John Isner at Wimbledon in 2010.
The match lasted 11 hours and five minutes and took place over three days, with the last set alone 鈥 eight hours 11 minutes 鈥 being long enough to have broken the previous longest-match record.
Mahut bid adieu to the sport on home soil alongside Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday, losing 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 to Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
鈥淏eing able to win Grand Slams was for me one of the best memories,鈥 an emotional Mahut said after the match.
鈥淭hat鈥檚 what I will remember,鈥 he said. 鈥淏eyond the titles, the trophies that I may have, it鈥檚 also ultimately everything that happened in order for me to achieve those trophies and victories.鈥
鈥淚t鈥檚 all the doubts, the questioning, the mistakes I made. That is ultimately what makes a career rich and mine is very rich in that regard.鈥
Asked about his record-setting match with Isner, Mahut said: 鈥淚 now enjoy talking about that match because it was a crazy experience. It brought me a lot as a player and as a man.鈥 (

New Zealand hammer reckless England despite Archer鈥檚 brilliance

New Zealand hammer reckless England despite Archer鈥檚 brilliance
  • New Zealand clinches three-match series after their four-wicket win on Sunday

HAMILTON, New Zealand: New Zealand defeated England by five wickets in the second ODI in Hamilton on Wednesday, with the return of Jofra Archer unable to ignite the visitors鈥 full-throttle style of cricket.
The victory meant New Zealand clinched the three-match series with a game to spare after their four-wicket win in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
England鈥檚 batsmen flitted between reason and recklessness after New Zealand won the toss, with the visitors bowled out for 175 after just 36 overs.
England鈥檚 aggressive batting often led to needless dismissals against the run of play, with no partnership lasting longer than six overs or more than 38 runs.
New Zealand鈥檚 bowling was steady but not unplayable. Blair Tickner claimed 4-34 on his return to the Black Caps after more than two years away.
Jamie Smith, Jacob Bethell and Brydon Carse holed out unnecessarily, Bethell showing a lack of awareness in picking out the deep-square fielder with the first ball after drinks.
Harry Brook, who was brilliant in scoring 135 in the first match, slashed a cut in the air to point off Mitchell Santner that was well taken by a diving Will Young.
England were 143-7 midway through the innings but couldn鈥檛 accelerate to a decent total without Brook at the crease.
Jamie Overton was the pick of England鈥檚 batters with 42 from just 28 balls, followed by Brook鈥檚 run-a-ball 34.
England took hope from Archer鈥檚 return ahead of next month鈥檚 Ashes series, and he worried New Zealand as soon as he took the ball.
Archer dismissed Young with the fourth ball of the innings and then troubled Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra with deliveries that seamed past both edges of the bat.
Where England had tried to hit their way out of trouble, New Zealand knuckled down and got through tough periods with grit and patience.
Williamson and Ravindra shared a 42-run partnership before the former chopped on to his stumps for 21.
Daryl Mitchell then arrived and combined for a 63-run partnership with Ravindra, until he pulled Archer to backward square for 54.
Archer gave England faint hope again with the dismissal of Michael Bracewell, completing match figures of 3-23 from 10 overs that included four maidens.
Mitchell, coming off a commanding 78 not out in the first match, steered the New Zealand chase to finish on 56 not out.
New Zealand were sweating on the fitness of star seamer Matt Henry, who suffered a calf strain before the match.

  • Kenan Yildiz sealed it by also earning and converting a penalty in stoppage time
  • Interim coach Massimo Brambilla directed the team against Udinese

ROME: Igor Tudor鈥檚 firing at Juventus produced an immediate result.
The Bianconeri beat visiting Udinese 3-1 in Serie A on Wednesday to end an eight-match winless streak that had stretched back to mid-September.
Defender Federico Gatti headed in the winner for Juventus after Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring by earning and converting a penalty.
Kenan Yildiz sealed it by also earning and converting a penalty in stoppage time.
Tudor was fired on Monday following three consecutive losses.
Interim coach Massimo Brambilla directed the team against Udinese, with former Napoli and Italy coach Luciano Spalletti expected to be named the club鈥檚 new manager on Thursday.
鈥淪palletti is a great coach, with experience and a modern style of football,鈥 Juventus adviser Giorgio Chiellini said before kickoff, before adding: 鈥淲e have to wait, because there is no signature yet.鈥
The victory lifted Juventus into sixth place, six points behind Italian league leaders Napoli and Roma.
Roma moved level with Napoli with a 2-1 victory over Parma.
Later, Inter Milan were hosting winless Fiorentina.
Nicol貌 Zaniolo scored a temporary equalizer for Udinese.
Roma rising to Gasperini鈥檚 standards
At the Stadio Olimpico, Gian Piero Gasperini鈥檚 squad finally showed an offensive spark that had been lacking under the attack-minded coach.
Center back Mario Hermoso scored his first goal with Roma by redirecting in a corner by the back post with a header.
Then center forward Artem Dovbyk doubled the advantage by turning in a rebound.
Alessandro Circati scored for Parma four minutes from time.
Roma also had a potential goal from Matias Soule wiped out following a VAR review, Leon Bailey wasted an open look at the goal when he missed wide from close range, and Paulo Dybala had an acrobatic header stopped with a fingertip save.
Also, big-spending Como beat Hellas Verona 3-1 to move up to fourth.
Tasos Douvikas, Stefan Posch and M毛rgim Vojvoda scored for Como, which is coached by Cesc Fabregas.

  • Sinner鈥檚 65-week reign as No. 1 ended in September when Alcaraz won the US Open final against him
  • Sinner had Bergs under constant pressure, forging 11 break-point chances and converting three

PARIS: Jannik Sinner鈥檚 bid to reclaim the No. 1 ranking got off to a good start Wednesday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Zizou Bergs in the second round of the Paris Masters, which the Italian needs to win to knock Carlos Alcaraz off the top spot.
Sinner鈥檚 65-week reign as No. 1 ended in September when Alcaraz won the US Open final against him for his sixth major title and the top spot. But Alcaraz lost in Paris on Tuesday in the second round to unseeded Cameron Norrie, opening the door for Sinner in their seesaw rivalry.
Sinner had Bergs under constant pressure, forging 11 break-point chances and converting three, while not conceding a break point of his own. The 24-year-old Italian clinched victory on his first match point and plays unseeded Francisco Cerundolo in the third round.
Defending champion Alexander Zverev joined Sinner in round three by rallying from 3-1 down in the final set to beat Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-7 (5), 6-1, 7-5.
The third-seeded German made a telling difference on his second serve, winning 78 percent of points compared to 42 percent for his opponent, who dropped his serve four times. Zverev next plays 15th-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Elsewhere, ninth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada rallied from a break down in the second set and 3-0 down in the third set tiebreaker in a 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) win over Frenchman Alexandre Muller.
Auger-Aliassime鈥檚 erratic performance combined 50 winners and 55 unforced errors as he he maintained his chances of reaching the season-ending, eight-player ATP Finals in Turin, Italy. He next faces unseeded Daniel Altmaier, who beat eighth-seeded Casper Ruud 6-3, 7-5 to end the Norwegian鈥檚 chances of reaching Turin.
No. 11 Daniil Medvedev advanced with a walkover after Grigor Dimitrov 鈥 the 2023 tournament runner-up 鈥 pulled out of their match with a shoulder injury.
Family affair
Valentin Vacherot came out on top again in the battle of the cousins as he beat Arthur Rinderknech 6-7 (9), 6-3, 6-4.
鈥淚t was very physical. Mentally, it was hard, as well,鈥 Vacherot said. 鈥淲e were very tense, I think the crowd could see it.鈥
A little more than two weeks ago, Vacherot won the Shanghai Masters final against Rinderknech, making a run from qualifying in China to win his first career tournament.
The 40th-ranked Vacherot, who is from Monaco, plays Norrie next.
