  • The Palestinian Authority, Jordan, Egypt, and Yemen emphasized the Palestinians’ right to an independent state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital

RIYADH: Arab states and regional organizations joined on Wednesday in condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over comments expressing support for a so-called “Greater Israel.”

In an interview with i24 News on Tuesday, Netanyahu said he is “very attached” to the vision of a “Greater Israel.”

The term is understood to refer to an expansionist concept of Israeli territory that includes East Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza, the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights and parts of other neighboring Arab countries.

’s Foreign Ministry said it completely rejected the “settlement and expansionist ideas and projects” adopted by Israeli authorities.

The ministry also said the Palestinian people had a historical and legal right to establish an independent, sovereign state on their lands, based on relevant international laws.

“The Kingdom warns the international community against the Israeli occupation’s persistence in flagrant violations that undermine the foundations of international legitimacy, blatantly violate the sovereignty of states, and threaten regional and global security and peace,” the ministry said.

Regional leaders

The Palestinian Authority echoed 's condemnation ofNetanyahu’s remarks, calling them a “disregard for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people” and a “dangerous provocation” that threatens regional security. It reaffirmed its commitment to establishing an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said the comments reflect “the occupation’s approach rooted in arrogance, fueling crises and conflicts, and blatantly infringing on the sovereignty of states.”

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said that such rhetoric contradicts regional and international aspirations for peace and stability. The ministry called for a return to negotiations, an end to the war in Gaza, and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on a two-state solution.

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs labeled Netanyahu’s statements a “dangerous and provocative escalation.” Spokesperson Sufyan Qudah said the “absurd delusions” expressed by Israeli officials will neither affect Jordan and other Arab countries nor undermine the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. He also called on the international community to act to halt incitement that threatens regional stability and international peace.

Yemen reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, emphasizing their right to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Yemeni Foreign Ministry urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take urgent measures to halt these violations and hold Israeli leaders accountable.

Regional bodies

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi also condemned the remarks, calling them a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law, and a blatant attack on the sovereignty and unity of Arab states. He warned that such statements pose a direct threat to regional and global stability and reaffirmed the GCC’s categorical rejection of any attempts to undermine the territorial integrity of Arab countries.

Albudaiwi urged the international community to take a firm stand against what he described as provocative declarations and to protect the region from measures that could inflame tensions and jeopardize prospects for a just and comprehensive peace.

The Arab League alsodenounced Netanyahu’s comments “in the strongest terms,” describing them as a dangerous disregard for the sovereignty of Arab nations and a serious threat to collective Arab security. It said the rhetoric reflected “expansionist and aggressive intentions” rooted in “colonial delusions,” and called on the UN Security Council to act decisively to confront such extremist declarations.

Dr. Walid Ftehi, founder, chairman of the board and CEO of International Medical Center, spoke to Arab News about what he called “a holistic concept of medicine.”

“That is why our mission from day number one (was) to pioneer a unique approach of healing the mind, body and soul by applying the best global healthcare standards and pursuing divine ethics.”

For Ftehi, it is critical to pay attention to the body as a whole (the mind, the body and the soul) and not only to physical aspects.

He spoke about how ’s Vision 2030 is improving understanding of healthcare and focusing on core values such as prevention, health promotion and the encouragement of a healthy lifestyle.

“More than 90 percent of (diseases) are nothing but a result of our own choices in life,” he said.

“If we change the lifestyle of people: What they eat, what they do, what they drink, how (they) think, how they feel, then you get to take care of more than 80 to 90 percent of the diseases, the chronic diseases: obesity, diabetes and hypertension.”

Dr. Ashraf Amir, chief medical officer at IMC, echoed his sentiments, and highlighted the importance of prevention over treatment to overcome health challenges in the country.

“It’s very important to highlight the strategic directions that we are implementing through our Vision 2030 and the wonderful transformation of our healthcare system to adapt a new concept in our practice as a physician toward quality of life,” Amir told Arab News.

“So, we are now moving from intervention to prevention, from disease to health, from illness to wellness.

“Now, as a physician, I’m not only here to treat the disease, but also to prevent the disease and, moreover, to improve the quality of life of our patients.”

He also discussed the Ministry of Health’s goals to extend the life expectancy of the Kingdom’s population.

“A couple of years ago, (life expectancy) was 76, and our objective in the Ministry of Health to be achieved as a KPI by the year 2045 is 80 years of age.

“How far (have we gone) to be successful in this journey? We reached today, 79 years.”

On Tuesday, through her health initiative 10KSA, Princess Reema, who is the Kingdom’s ambassador to the US, urged members of the public to take preventative action, and encourage others to do the same.

For the upcoming “Lavender Ribbon” day on Dec. 8, 10KSA invites people to post their stories on social media. The color lavender represents all cancers, globally.

Princess Reema said at the launch: “By joining us, you’ll help more people grasp the vital role of prevention through regular check-ups and screenings, which can lead to earlier diagnoses.

“Let’s stand together for health today, on Dec. 8, and every single day, because together, we will build a healthier future for ourselves, our loved ones, and our nation.”

Under the slogan, “Together for Health,” the initiative urges everyone to post a photo or video of their Lavender Ribbon, with a caption that highlights the steps they are taking for their health, with the tag @10KSA2025 and hashtag #10KSA.

Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the initiative, activities will include planting 10,000 lavender bushes in the Asir region.

10KSA is also providing a toolkit, which can be downloaded from their website, setting out how to participate.

It includes educational material about cancer, information on preventative care, as well as brand guidelines and social media posts for everyone to use.

10KSA was launched by Princess Reema in 2015 to promote cancer awareness and preventative health.
