LONDON: Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khereiji called on Tuesday for intensified international efforts to end the conflict in Sudan during his address at the London Conference on Sudan.

Al-Khereiji said that the crisis extends beyond Sudan鈥檚 borders, posing a serious threat to regional stability and both Arab and African national security, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

鈥淥ur collective responsibility requires us to support the dialogue process, work toward a ceasefire, deliver urgent humanitarian aid and safeguard Sudan鈥檚 unity, institutions and territorial integrity,鈥 he said.

Representing 黑料社区 at the conference, Al-Khereiji was attending on behalf of Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

He highlighted the Kingdom鈥檚 sustained diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis, particularly through hosting the first and second talks. These negotiations resulted in the Jeddah Declaration on protecting civilians, a short-term ceasefire agreement that contained crucial humanitarian arrangements.

The second round also led to the creation of a humanitarian coordination platform under OCHA, the adoption of four confidence-building measures and a proposed resolution formula on military base issues.

In his address, Al-Khereiji discussed the importance of halting all external support to the conflicting parties to create the conditions for a lasting ceasefire and comprehensive political solution. He added that neutralizing foreign interference would facilitate humanitarian operations 鈥 particularly the opening of safe corridors and the delivery of aid.

He warned against the formation of any parallel government or alternative political entity, calling such attempts illegitimate and damaging to Sudan鈥檚 unity and sovereignty.

鈥淭hese actions undermine the political process and deepen national divisions,鈥 he said.

The deputy foreign minister reiterated the Kingdom鈥檚 belief that a solution to the war must be Sudanese-led and based on respect for the country鈥檚 sovereignty, unity and the preservation of its state institutions.

  • Tents hold special place in the hearts of Northern Borders people
  • Women artisans have been passing on their skills for generations

RIYADH: The Bedouin tent, known locally as Bayt Al-Sha鈥檃r, has long been an authentic symbol of heritage in the Northern Borders region.

In winter, these tents reappear across the plains, hillsides and outskirts of the city, bringing back the spirit of the past and the warmth of the Bedouin life, the Saudi Press Agency reported recently.

Despite the evolution of modern housing and the variety of lifestyle options available today, the Bedouin tent still holds a special place in the hearts of the region鈥檚 people.

As temperatures drop, residents set them up to serve as warm gathering spaces for family and social occasions.

These tents are traditionally woven from goat hair and are renowned for their exceptional ability to insulate against cold and wind, making them an ideal refuge in the harsh northern climate.

The construction of the Bedouin tent is a traditional craft practiced by women in the region. Artisan Umm Ahmad said one tent can take several days, depending on size and the number of women involved in the process.

She said the tents vary in shape and number of poles, including al-mathlouth (triangular), al-marbou鈥 (square), and al-musawdas (hexagonal).

Umm Ahmad said she learned the craft from her mother and is now passing it on to her granddaughter.

Artisan Umm Sultan from the local market said the tools used include al-matraq, a stick for cleaning the goat hair, an iron needle for sewing, and ropes for securing the sides, in addition to cords and spinning threads.

She said prices vary depending on size and quality, starting at around $400 and going up to $1,600.

In recent years, traditional Bedouin tents have become popular in the Northern Borders province, drawing visitors from across the Kingdom and the Gulf countries.

They come to experience the authentic Bedouin lifestyle, including heritage activities, Arabic coffee brewed over firewood, and night-time storytelling on cold evenings.

The Northern Borders is also rich in diverse natural sites that have become popular destinations for camping and desert-tourism enthusiasts.

Among the most prominent are Al-Habka, Luqa, Al-Rak鈥檃, Zahwah, Al-Qurayyah and Al-Gharabah, stretching from the center of Al-Shu鈥檅ah in the east to the governorate of Turaif in the west.
