  • 黑料社区 taking all necessary steps to become a global AI powerhouse, says Yasser Al-Onaizan
  • Humain launched to develop Arabic large language models and establish the Kingdom as a global hub for AI innovation and leadership

RIYADH: The new Saudi-made Arabic artificial intelligence large language model launched by PIF-back Humain represents a 鈥渢ransformative leap鈥 for the technology, the firm鈥檚 deputy CEO has told Arab News.

Yasser Al-Onaizan, also Humain鈥檚 president for data and AI models, told Arab News how the ALLAM 34B large language model was built on the largest known Arab language dataset.

The ALLAM chat is Humain鈥檚 first application in its AI suite and is powered by an Arabic model called ALLAM 34B. It is built in 黑料社区 by Saudis and was launched at an event in Riyadh on Tuesday.

鈥淲e are confident that 黑料社区 is taking all the necessary steps to become a global AI powerhouse, and Humain is proud to be at the forefront of this transformation. Our vision aligns strategically with the Kingdom鈥檚 ambitious national strategy, where we鈥檙e not just participants, but we are actively shaping the future of AI,鈥 Al-Onaizan said.

ALLAM was independently ranked as the world鈥檚 most advanced Arabic-first AI model. While powering Arabic chat for customers, the model also has applications for enterprise, government services and financial systems.

鈥淏uilt on over 500 billion Arabic tokens and supported by hundreds of domain experts, ALLAM delivers a truly bilingual AI system that maintains cultural authenticity while meeting the demands of both everyday users and enterprise applications,鈥 Al-Onaizan said.

Building the platform presented a unique set of challenges for developers, including a scarcity of high-quality Arabic training data.

鈥淗owever,鈥 said Al-Onaizan, 鈥渨e鈥檝e turned this challenge into an opportunity through our innovative approach to data curation and governance, which was a 鈥榖uilt from scratch鈥 solution.鈥

The company has established rigorous data collection and validation processes, which Al-Onaizan says ensures that training meets quality standards.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched Humain in May. The artificial intelligence company was launched to develop Arabic large language models and establish the Kingdom as a global hub for AI innovation and leadership.

Backed by the Public Investment Fund, Humain will operate across the entire AI value chain as an integrated technology firm, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

  • Back-to-back celestial events this week a bright spot for stargazers

RIYADH: Residents in 黑料社区鈥檚 Northern Borders region witnessed a striking celestial event on Wednesday evening, as the crescent moon aligned closely with Spica, the brightest star in the Virgo constellation.

The conjunction was clearly visible to the naked eye, creating a vivid contrast against the night sky and drawing the attention of astronomy enthusiasts and casual observers, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

While such lunar alignments with zodiacal stars occur regularly, favorable weather conditions and clear skies contributed to the clarity and prominence of this event.

The Spica conjunction is just one of a series of notable astronomical phenomena observed across the Kingdom in recent days.

On Tuesday night, stargazers observed a triple alignment involving the crescent moon, Mars, and the star Chi Virginis.

In addition, observers reported the appearance of several large spots on the surface of the sun 鈥 an indication of heightened solar activity.

Astronomers note that these events not only offer visual displays but also contribute to ongoing research in space science, solar behavior, and atmospheric conditions.
