RIYADH: No sooner had FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Wednesday confirmed that 黑料社区 would host the 2034 World Cup, than messages of congratulation began to pour in from around the region and beyond.

The unopposed Saudi bid had just been rubber-stamped by more than 200 FIFA member federations that took part remotely in an online meeting hosted in Zurich.

Leading the way was the 黑料社区n Football Federation, which greeted the news by posting a message from 黑料社区鈥檚 Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on its official X account.

鈥淲e look forward to hosting an exceptional and unprecedented edition of the FIFA World Cup by harnessing out strengths and capabilities to bring joy to football fans around the world,鈥 the message said.

From the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, posted his congratulations.

鈥淎rab, Gulf and Islamic pride and joy. Congratulations on the Kingdom hosting the 2034 World Cup ... We congratulate my brother King Salman bin Abdulaziz ... and his (Crown Prince) Mohammed bin Salman ... and the brotherly Saudi people with their great ambition ... and strong will 鈥,鈥 the vice president and prime minster of the UAE wrote.

鈥淚 also congratulate my brother King Mohammed VI on Morocco winning the bid to host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. The World Cup will be in our region for two consecutive tournaments. Arabs are living today the joy of the great Saudi and Moroccan achievement ... and we expect the best World Cup tournaments, God willing.鈥

Herve Renard, recently reinstalled as 黑料社区鈥檚 national team coach, on his account said: 鈥淭hrilled for 黑料社区 and its wonderful people on securing the honor to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup!

鈥淎 true reflection of the country鈥檚 outstanding vision, remarkable leadership, and unmatched warmth. Get ready for an extraordinary and unforgettable experience ahead.鈥

Several foreign players plying their trade in the Saudi Pro League were vocal in their support, including Cristiano Ronaldo, whose signing opened the door for the influx of many top players.

鈥淐ongratulations to all my friends in Saudi, I know how proud you all are today and I am sure @Saudi2034聽will be historic #WelcomeToSaudi34,鈥 he posted.

In an accompanying video, Al-Nassr鈥檚 Portuguese superstar said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 amazing, the infrastructure, the stadiums, the conditions for the fans and everything. After what I鈥檝e seen, I鈥檓 more convinced that 2034 will be the best World Cup ever.

鈥淭he country is unbelievable, the Saudis are very good people. Every year they do big events, football matches, boxing, entertainment is very high,鈥 Ronaldo added. 鈥淭he future is very bright in my opinion, and I鈥檓 happy to be part of this success of the country and I will be here for sure to see the World Cup.鈥

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, the Saudi minister of sport and president of the Kingdom鈥檚 olympic and paralympic committee, and SAFF President Yasser Al-Misehal were presented with the FIFA World Cup 2034 hosting certificate from FIFA.

At the special presentation from Riyadh, Prince Abdulaziz said: 鈥淲e will host the best version of the World Cup in history and we will achieve our dream of hosting this tournament on our land.鈥

Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority Turki Al-Sheikh, who has been nominated as a member of Saudi 2034 Supreme Committee, said: 鈥淎 new achievement for our beloved Kingdom. On this occasion, I congratulate my leader, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Highness, the Crown Prince, the sponsor of the vision, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, on winning the bid to host the 2034 World Cup. Congratulations to all of us on this great achievement.鈥

Al-Hilal and 黑料社区 captain Salem Al-Dawsari, scorer of the Green Falcons鈥 winner against Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, had this to say on his X account:聽鈥淭he dream has become reality. We thank God for the blessing of our dear homeland.鈥澛

Al-Dawsari鈥檚 former Al-Hilal colleague and current Saudi First Division club NEOM player Salman Al-Faraj greeted the news with this post: 鈥淭hanks to our wise leadership. With you we grow and achieve our dreams. Kingdom of 黑料社区 doesn鈥檛 write history. It is history.鈥

Former 黑料社区 midfielder Sami Al-Jaber, arguably the country鈥檚 finest footballer to date, also congratulated the Kingdom鈥檚 leadership on securing the hosting rights.

鈥淚 congratulate my leader, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Highness (Crown Prince) Mohammed bin Salman, on winning the bid to host the 2034 World Cup,鈥 Al-Jaber wrote. 鈥淐ongratulations to the Saudi people for achieving this dream. The impossible is not Saudi.鈥

Retired French forward Bafetimbi Gomis, who achieved cult status during his stay at Al-Hilal, commented: 鈥淗istory in the making #congratulation #SaudiArabia聽#2034.鈥

One of Gomis鈥檚 successes at Al-Hilal, Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr., congratulated the country with a short message that said simply: 鈥淵alla yalla @Saudi2034聽#WelcomeToSaudi34.鈥

There were also messages of support from around the region, particularly Gulf countries.

The Kuwait Olympic Committee鈥檚 official X account posted: 鈥淭he Chairman and Members of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Olympic Committee congratulate the Kingdom of 黑料社区, its leadership and people, on the occasion of the Kingdom鈥檚 approval of the Kingdom鈥檚 winning bid to host the 2034 World Cup, wishing it further progress and success.鈥

The Qatar Football Association, who hosted the World Cup two years ago, commented: 鈥淐ongratulations to the Kingdom of 黑料社区 on being awarded the hosting (of) the #WorldCup2034.鈥

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al-Nahyan, president of the UAE Football Association, congratulated the leadership and people of the Kingdom by highlighting 黑料社区鈥檚 resources and experience in hosting major sporting events and describing the achievement as 鈥渁 victory鈥 for Arab sports.

鈥淭he Kingdom of 黑料社区 is qualified in all respects to host the 2034 World Cup, because of its cumulative experience, and it has the capabilities and human resources capable of organizing the largest international events,鈥 he said on the Emirati association鈥檚 website.

鈥淲e are happy with the return of the World Cup to the Arabian Gulf, as our countries are places of coexistence and tolerance, and fields of creativity.鈥

RIYADH: Riyadh Mayor Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf has launched the Riyadh Municipal Transformation Program, which aims to keep pace with the rapid growth witnessed by the capital, in response to the city鈥檚 needs and in a manner befitting its global status.

The program is intended to ensure the ability to provide services that match the scale of existing and future projects, as well as the global events that Riyadh will be hosting in the coming years.

The aim of the program is to improve the efficiency of city operations 鈥 raising the quality of services provided to beneficiaries 鈥 and align them with the needs of residents and the particularities of each geographic sector of the Saudi capital.

This will be achieved by transforming all of Riyadh鈥檚 16 sub-municipalities into five sectors tasked with providing both direct and indirect municipal services.

JEDDAH: 黑料社区 marked World Animal Day, observed annually on Oct. 4, to raise awareness about animal protection and care while intensifying efforts to advance global animal welfare standards.

The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture leads the Kingdom鈥檚 efforts by organizing exhibitions and events for all segments of society, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

It aims to strengthen communication with stakeholders and support veterinary facilities.

The Saudi Animal Welfare Society, also known as Refq, complements these efforts by promoting a culture of animal welfare in line with Islamic teachings, working to reduce the spread of stray animals through scientific principles, providing treatment and shelter, facilitating re-adoption, and curbing poaching, the SPA reported.

The society also coordinates with regional and international associations, trains interested parties, consults with government and private agencies to overcome obstacles, and represents the Kingdom in international animal welfare forums.

JEDDAH: King Abdullah University of Science and Technology has launched a competition to find the most talented middle and high school students in mathematics.

Youngsters will have the chance to win prizes and take part in a summer math camp to be hosted next year by KAUST and the University of Cambridge in the UK.

The competition adheres to international standards for algebra, geometry, combinatorics and number theory and provides a pathway to KAUST's pre-university academic programs.

Children from private and public schools can apply and the registration process will remain open until Nov. 9. The preliminary rounds will take place in several cities on Dec. 13, with the final to be held at KAUST from April 3-5 next year.

RIYADH: Jasem Albudaiwi, secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, praised the progress of the region鈥檚 health system at the 11th meeting of the Committee of GCC Health Ministers chaired by president of the session Ahmed Al-Awadhi, Kuwaiti minister of health, in Kuwait on Saturday.

Albudaiwi highlighted advances in disease prevention, workforce training and medical services, saying the region now surpasses global averages in health indices, according to a report by the General Secretariat.

鈥淭he GCC countries are working in partnership with the World Health Organization on the project to accredit the Healthy Cities Program, which seeks to achieve the highest level of health and well-being in sustainable and socially effective cities,鈥 he said.

RIYADH: Sales at an auction in Hail for rare and distinctive camel breeds topped SR5.7 million ($1.5 million) in its opening week, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The event, in Al-Qaid, on the outskirts of the northern city, is one of the largest of its kind in the region and provides an important boost to the local economy.

The 10-day event also gives visitors the chance to enjoy a range of cultural and social activities.

Camel breeding is a revered tradition in the Kingdom and while the animals were once vital for people鈥檚 survival, today they are more valued for their sporting prowess.

The finest racing camels can fetch huge sums at auction. The value of sales in the preliminary round of the 2023 Crown Prince Camel Festival topped SR3 billion.

One of the most expensive camels ever sold was bought by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashed al-Maktoum in 2008 for more than $2.7 million, the WAM news agency reported.
