A 70-year-old Jordanian pilgrim died in Tabuk on Tuesday morning after a vehicle ran over him in front of Abu Rasheed Gas Station.
The man died on the spot from his injuries, witnesses said.
Saudi Red Crescent Authority officials rushed to the accident site and took the pilgrim’s body to King Fahd Hospital’s mortuary. The man’s family, including his two wives and 40-year-old son, have been given accommodation at a hotel opposite the hospital, local media reported.
Witnesses blamed the accident on speeding by the vehicle’s driver. The pilgrim’s body would be taken to Jordan for burial if the family requests it, sources were quoted as saying.
In another road accident in Madinah, three people died and two were injured when their vehicle overturned at the junction of Airport Road with Old Tabuk Road. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment. Khaled Al-Sahli, spokesman of the Saudi Red Crescent, said the injured were in a serious condition. In an accident close to Makkah on Monday evening, seven members of a family were killed on the spot, with only a 10-year-old surviving with injuries.
“We received information about an accident and rushed our aviation team and also a ground ambulance to the spot in Janara, north of Makkah on Monday evening,” said Ali Al-Ghamdi of the Saudi Red Crescent. He said the accident occurred when the car carrying the family collided with a trailer.
In a separate incident on the same day, five Indians working for a construction company were killed near Al-Ahsa. Nine workers from the construction company were traveling in the van. The deceased included three from Telangana state and two from Tamil Nadu.
An Egyptian worker also died on the spot, sources in Al-Ahsa told Arab News. The dead bodies were transferred to King Fahad Hospital in Hofuf.
