  • Pakistan鈥檚 chief of general staff meets top Saudi military leaders in Riyadh
  • Both sides review defense projects and explore tech-focused joint ventures

KARACHI: Pakistan鈥檚 Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Syed Aamer Raza met 黑料社区鈥檚 top military leadership in Riyadh to discuss expanding defense cooperation under a strategic framework between the two countries, the Pakistan military said on Friday.

The meeting came nearly two months after Pakistan and 黑料社区 signed a joint defense security pact, pledging that an attack on one country would be treated as an attack on both.

The Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement was signed in September and further solidified decades of Saudi-Pakistan security cooperation covering areas such as intelligence-sharing, counterterrorism and regional stability.

鈥淟t. Gen. Syed Aamer Raza, Chief of General Staff (CGS) Pakistan Army, called on General Fayyadh Bin Hameed Al-Rowaily, Chief of General Staff, Royal Saudi Armed Forces, at Riyadh,鈥 the military鈥檚 media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement.

鈥淒uring the meeting, matters of mutual strategic interest were discussed, with a special focus on strengthening bilateral defense cooperation, enhancing interoperability and advancing collaboration under the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement,鈥 it added.

ISPR said both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the longstanding relations contributing to regional stability and self-reliance.

A special session of the Pakistan-Saudi Bilateral Defense Industrial Forum was also held in Riyadh. The Pakistan tri-services delegation was led by Raza, while the Saudi side was headed by Assistant Minister of Defense for Executive Affairs Khalid Al Biyari.

鈥淒uring the bilateral meet, both sides reviewed the progress of ongoing defense cooperation projects and discussed new avenues for joint ventures in emerging technologies in line with the Kingdom鈥檚 Vision 2030,鈥 the statement said.

The Pakistani general reaffirmed his country鈥檚 support for the capacity-building of Saudi defense forces.

ISPR said Saudi officials also praised Pakistan鈥檚 鈥渁chievements and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and vital contributions to regional peace and stability.鈥

  • Video of Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan鈥檚 interaction with an Israeli tourism ministry official went viral on social media
  • Foreign office says it is unfair to link the incident to speculation about Islamabad joining the Abraham Accords

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan鈥檚 foreign office said on Friday a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif鈥檚 special assistant on tourism and an Israeli official at a global travel fair in London was not authorized by the government, with the official later saying he did not know he was speaking to an Israeli delegation.

The World Travel Market (WTM) in London is one of the world鈥檚 leading travel-trade exhibitions, bringing together tourism boards, airlines, hotel groups, travel-tech firms and tour operators from more than 180 countries. Held annually, it serves as a major hub for business deals, offering a platform where destinations market themselves, companies negotiate partnerships and buyers and sellers secure contracts that shape travel flows for the year ahead.

Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, the Pakistan prime minister鈥檚 coordinator on tourism, was seen in a video that went viral on social media shaking hands and speaking with Michael Izhakov, Director General of Israel鈥檚 Ministry of Tourism, at the Pakistan pavilion during the event.

鈥淚 can assure you that if at all such a meeting or such an interaction took place, it was without authorization, certainly without information to us and certainly without authorization by the government,鈥 Tahir Andrabi, the foreign office spokesperson, told the media in his weekly news briefing. 鈥淚 have not seen any such authorization and I have not seen any information as yet.鈥

Andrabi called it unfair to link the incident with speculation about Pakistan joining the Abraham Accords or recognizing Israel, describing such conclusions as 鈥渢oo far-fetched鈥 and urging the media to avoid unnecessary conjecture.

Speculation over whether Pakistan could eventually join the accords has circulated on social media in recent weeks, particularly after high-level contacts between Pakistani leaders and US President Donald Trump.

Last month, Trump said he expected the accords to expand, expressing hope that more states would normalize relations with Israel.

Pakistani officials, however, have repeatedly rejected such speculation and reaffirmed Islamabad鈥檚 position supporting an independent Palestinian state with pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.

Domestic political sentiment in Pakistan also remains strongly opposed to recognition without a just settlement for Palestinians.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued to the media, the prime minister鈥檚 aide said he had no knowledge that he was meeting an Israeli delegation.

鈥淪ardar Yasir Ilyas Khan visited London at his own expense, leading a delegation of 31 tourism representatives from Pakistan to participate in the World Travel Market,鈥 the statement said. 鈥淒uring the event, a group of individuals from Israel visited the Pakistan Pavilion unannounced and met the Pakistani delegation without introducing themselves.鈥

鈥淒espite this unexpected encounter, Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan remained focused on his mission as a proud Pakistani and true patriot, dedicated to promoting a positive and progressive tourism narrative for Pakistan across the world,鈥 it added.
The foreign office spokesperson was also asked about the upcoming visit of Jordan鈥檚 King Abdullah II to Pakistan and the possibility of discussions over Pakistan鈥檚 participation in the Gaza Stabilization Force.

The proposed force is expected to be a multinational security mission, drawing heavily on Muslim-majority nations, to help secure key areas of Gaza, support humanitarian access and assist in rebuilding basic administrative and policing structures.

Andrabi said Pakistan and Jordan cooperate closely on multilateral issues, including Palestine.

鈥淚 am sure Palestine will feature in discussions that His Majesty will have in Islamabad,鈥 he said. 鈥淥n the role of the International Stabilization Force, no decision has been taken on Pakistan鈥檚 participation.鈥

The spokesperson added the mandate of the force itself was still under discussion at the UN Security Council.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 think the Security Council has reached a decision,鈥 he continued. 鈥淪o this is an ongoing process. We are engaged in it.鈥
