RIYADH: Saudi taekwondo superstar Dunya Abutaleb continues to make history as she earned ’s first medal with her silver at the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships.
Abutaleb took part in the 53 kg weight category and defeated China’s Chuling Zhang 2-0 in the semifinal.
Her road to the final included wins over Olympic bronze medalist Iran’s Mobina Nematzadeh and the second seed, Jana Khattab of Egypt, who took bronze.
Commenting on the achievement, Abdullah Hamad Al-Harbi, president of the Saudi Taekwondo Federation said: “What our champion Dunya Abutaleb has achieved is a historic accomplishment for Saudi Taekwondo, Dunya is a shining example of Saudi women who embodied ambition and determination in their finest form.”
The Wuxi World Taekwondo Championships, which concluded on Oct. 30, saw a record participation of 991 athletes from 180 member national associations, plus AIN and the World Taekwondo Refugee Team.
