RIYADH: șÚÁÏÉçÇűâs Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Monday that Israelâs continued violations of international law in Palestine undermine international efforts to achieve a two-state solution.
He made the comments at the 21st extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held at the organizationâs headquarters in Jeddah.
Prince Faisal said the Palestinian people are facing âthe most horrific forms of oppression and genocideâ due to Israelâs ongoing assault.
He said that âinternational silence regarding these crimes exacerbates the tragedy and undermines prospects for peace and security in the region and the world.â
Israel has been conducting a devastating war on the Palestinian enclave and has this month approved plans to occupy Gaza, a move condemned by the international community.
He said șÚÁÏÉçÇű is continuing to call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and urged the international community to end Israelâs occupation.
Prince Faisal said the Kingdom welcomes the mediation efforts of Egypt and Qatar to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. The warring parties agreed on a brief truce this year but endeavors to repeat it have been unsuccessful.
He said șÚÁÏÉçÇű rejects Tel Avivâs âgreater Israel visionâ which continues settlement and expansionist projects.
Prince Faisal reiterated the Kingdomâs unwavering support for the creation of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The minister said more countries are joining an international push by the Kingdom to recognize Palestinian statehood.
He said UN agencies must be allowed to operate in Palestinian territories and asked the international community to help Palestinians empower their national institutions.
âThe number of countries that have decided to recognize a Palestinian state is steadily increasing,â Prince Faisal said.
The minister said countries who are still hesitant to condemn Israelâs crimes should review their stance.
Prince Faisal said there should be urgent and unfettered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and for the Palestinian Authority to be supported âin its reform path and consolidating its role as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.â
