RIYADH: Jazan University enrolled 344 students into its foreign scholarship program this year, taking the total since its inception to 2,100.

The latest intake represent more than 20 countries, including France, Canada, the Russian Federation and several Arab, African and Asian nations, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

As well as helping the university to increase its global standing, the program provides a platform for enhancing relationships between people from around the world, and nurturing cultural understanding and intellectual moderation, the report said.

Jazan University is regarded as a leading scientific institution within the Kingdom and the wider Arab world. It champions the message of Islam and the teaching of the Arabic language, while promoting the values of moderation, balance and understanding among people.

As well as the educational benefits, students enrolled on the scholarship program have access to a comprehensive healthcare package, which includes their accompanying family members, and various financial support options to cover shipping costs and the purchase of relevant materials and equipment.

The university also provides free flights home at the end of each academic year to ensure its students鈥 well-being.

A recent beneficiary of the scheme is Obaidur Rahman Abdul Hannan.

鈥淭his is an important academic project, which not only helps the meritorious students but also serves the purpose for achieving cultural understanding and intellectual moderation, making it an ambitious project deserving praise and appreciation both locally and internationally,鈥 he told Arab News.

RIYADH: 黑料社区 on Friday condemned violent attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians in villages in the occupied West Bank.

Dozens of settlers attacked the village of Kafr Malik near Ramallah on Wednesday. Three Palestinians were killed by Israeli security forces and seven wounded in the violence, Palestinian health officials said.

黑料社区鈥檚 Foreign Ministry said the Kingdom condemned and denunciated 鈥渢he continued violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers, under the protection of the occupation forces, against Palestinian civilians, including the attacks in the village of Kafr Malik.鈥

Since the war started in Gaza in October 2023, killing more than 55,000 people there, violence against Palestinians in the West Bank has also increased.

At least 900 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the territory in the same period and attacks by Israeli settlers have ramped up.

The ministry statement reiterated 黑料社区鈥檚 condemnation of Israeli violence against unarmed civilians in Gaza, 鈥渋ncluding the targeting of civilian sites housing displaced persons.鈥

The Kingdom called for Palestinian civilians to be protected and for the international community to put an end to 鈥淚sraeli violations of international laws and norms.鈥

RIYADH: The Saudi General Directorate of Passports has launched an initiative to extend expired visit visas for a final exit.

The initiative provides a 30-day window for extension, contingent upon the payment of prescribed fees and penalties in accordance with regulations.

The directorate said that applicants may submit requests through the Tawasul Service on the Ministry of Interior鈥檚 Absher portal during the specified period.

It urged all eligible individuals to benefit from the initiative before the deadline.

NORTH KORDOFAN: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has distributed 1,100 food baskets to displaced families in Sudan鈥檚 North Kordofan State, benefiting 6,383 individuals.

The distribution is part of the third phase of the 2025 Food Security Support Project and the Kingdom鈥檚 ongoing efforts through KSrelief to support Sudanese people amid the crisis.

Meanwhile, KSrelief continues to implement its water supply and environmental sanitation project in the Yemeni districts of Midi, Haradh, Hayran, and Abs in the Hajjah governorate, as well as the Razih district in the Sadah governorate.

In May, KSrelief delivered 4,561,000 liters of potable water and 47,412,000 liters of usable water in Hajjah.

Additionally, 244 waste removal operations were conducted in displacement camps, and 4,048 water transport containers were distributed.

The initiative is part of 黑料社区鈥檚 ongoing humanitarian efforts to meet essential needs and improve living conditions in regions affected by conflict.

JAZAN: Land patrols of the Saudi Border Guard in the Al-Dayer area of Jazan Province have arrested 10 Ethiopian violators of the law for smuggling 200 kg of the narcotic plant qat. Initial legal procedures have been completed against the offenders.

Authorities also foiled the smuggling of 11 kg of hashish in Al-Aridhah Governorate in Jazan. The confiscated items were handed over to the competent authority.

Elsewhere, authorities in Eastern Province arrested a resident of Egyptian nationality for promoting hashish. He was detained, legal procedures taken against him, and he was referred to the competent authority.

Security authorities urge citizens and residents to report any information related to drug smuggling or trafficking activities by calling 911 in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and 999 in the rest of the Kingdom鈥檚 regions, or by contacting the General Directorate of Narcotics Control on 995, or via email.

RIYADH: The King Abdullah Institute for Nanotechnology, established by King Saud University, will welcome 60 鈥済ifted students鈥 on Sunday as part of the Mawhiba Research Enrichment Program, a four-week initiative aimed at developing scientific skills and research experience among Saudi youth, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Run in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), the program 鈥渉arnesses the potential of gifted students, offering them hands-on experience in laboratories and production facilities, while introducing them to the fundamentals and ethics of scientific research under the supervision of specialized researchers,鈥 the SPA wrote.

Hamad Abdulaziz Albrithen, general supervisor of KAIN, explained that the institute鈥檚 overarching goal is 鈥渢o serve the community by transferring knowledge to younger generations through the use of advanced laboratory equipment and the expertise of distinguished researchers from diverse scientific disciplines.鈥

Ahmed bin Abdulkarim Al-Saleh, head of the Mawhiba program at KSU for 2025, highlighted the importance of such programs in providing exceptional students with the opportunity to conduct scientific research at KSU鈥檚 top-tier research chairs and centers.

Al-Saleh also noted that the program offers 鈥渁 wide range of skill-building activities, including Python programming, AI and its scientific applications, as well as enrichment trips to research centers beyond the university campus.鈥
