FlyNow eCopters to take flight in 黑料社区 soon

In a major step toward integrating flying taxis into daily transportation, 黑料社区 is all set to produce thousands of eCopters, FlyNow Aviation鈥檚 electric air vehicles, all of which will carry the 鈥淪audi Made鈥 label, according to FlyNow Aviation鈥檚 Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Yvonne Winter.

The Austria-based FlyNow Aviation is working to set up the assembly plant and will start the production of the cargo version in 2027. Officially, FlyNow鈥檚 eCopters are expected to transport the public during Riyadh Expo 2030.

鈥淎dditionally, test operations (sandbox flights) are planned for 2025 in 黑料社区 to adapt the technology to local conditions,鈥 Winter told Arab News.

Speaking about the future of mobility in 黑料社区, she said: 鈥満诹仙缜 is not only transforming its economy 鈥 it is shaping the future of mobility for the entire world.鈥

She added: 鈥淯nder the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Vision 2030, the Kingdom is proving that bold ideas, advanced technology, and national pride can work hand in hand. We are honored to be part of this historic journey and proud to contribute to building Saudi-made solutions for global air mobility.鈥

In May 2024, FlyNow Aviation signed a memorandum of understanding with the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the National Industrial Development Center, and the Sky Alliance for Automated Air Mobility.

鈥淭he cooperation aims to support the development of electric air mobility in 黑料社区, including regulations, airspace integration, vertiport infrastructure, and operational guidelines for unmanned air taxis,鈥 Winter explained.

In late 2024, FlyNow Aviation established a new company, FlyNow Arabia Ltd., in Riyadh, as part of its expansion strategy. The company plans to set up local production facilities to serve both domestic and international markets.

FlyNow is an alumnus of the Destination Deep Tech program at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and Winter has been invited to share insights with the participants of the follow-up program called KAUST ScaleX, which has been designed to support innovative global tech startups in expanding their operations into the Kingdom鈥檚 market.

Recently, Flynow achieved a significant milestone in the development of its modular eCopter family: the first untethered test flights were successfully completed at the newly secured testing site in Eastern Austria. This location enables unrestricted flight operations and accelerates its technical progress.

Driving KSA鈥檚 digital future: Cisco鈥檚 Saudi chief talks AI, cybersecurity and local talent development

On the sidelines of Cisco Connect KSA, Salman Faqeeh, managing director of Cisco 黑料社区, discussed how the global technology leader is helping to accelerate the Kingdom鈥檚 digital transformation and build a future-ready economy. With nearly three decades of presence in 黑料社区, Cisco鈥檚 story is closely intertwined with the country鈥檚 ambitions under Vision 2030.

Powering the AI revolution in 黑料社区

As 黑料社区 doubles down on its efforts to lead the AI revolution, Cisco is working hand-in-hand with government and enterprise partners to build the infrastructure of the future. Faqeeh highlighted Cisco鈥檚 groundbreaking initiative with HUMAIN, 黑料社区鈥檚 homegrown AI enterprise, to build one of the world鈥檚 most open and scalable AI infrastructures.

鈥満诹仙缜 is laying the foundation for a globally competitive AI ecosystem,鈥 Faqeeh said. 鈥淲ith local data centers already operational for security cloud services and the Webex platform, and plans underway to bring the Meraki cloud to the Kingdom, Cisco is committed to enabling businesses to scale confidently in a cloud-first, AI-driven world.鈥

Upskilling the next generation

Beyond technology, Cisco is investing heavily in Saudi talent. Faqeeh announced the company鈥檚 plans to launch the Cisco AI Institute at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, a center dedicated to driving AI innovation and preparing the next generation of Saudi talent.

Cisco is also scaling its efforts through digital upskilling, pledging free training for 500,000 learners over the next five years in critical areas such as AI, cybersecurity, and data science. This builds on the success of Cisco鈥檚 Networking Academy, which has already trained over 401,000 learners in the Kingdom 鈥 36 percent of whom are women.

鈥淥ur goal is to prepare Saudi talent to thrive in an AI-powered world,鈥 Faqeeh said. 鈥淧artnerships with institutions like King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology are also helping expand the pool of Cisco Certified Internetwork Experts, ensuring the Kingdom has the skilled workforce it needs to manage complex networks that support the AI future.鈥

Driving local manufacturing

Cisco is also laying the groundwork for local manufacturing operations in 黑料社区, starting with wireless technologies. According to Faqeeh, this effort will evolve in response to market demand, supporting the Kingdom鈥檚 goal of building a sustainable and diversified economy.

A rapidly advancing digital landscape

Reflecting on the pace of digital transformation, Faqeeh praised 黑料社区鈥檚 vision and execution. Over the past six years, the government has invested more than $24.8 billion in digital infrastructure. Internet penetration has reached 99 percent, with mobile Internet speeds surpassing 215 Mbps. The Kingdom now ranks first regionally and fourth globally for government digital services.

鈥満诹仙缜 is no longer just a consumer of technology; it鈥檚 becoming a global leader,鈥 Faqeeh said. 鈥淲e see immense opportunities for Cisco to contribute, especially in building AI-ready data centers, driving digital resilience, and developing future-proof workplaces.鈥

Strengthening cybersecurity in the age of AI

With the Kingdom accelerating its adoption of emerging technologies, cybersecurity has become a top priority. Cisco鈥檚 recent Cybersecurity Readiness Index shows that 91 percent of Saudi organizations experienced AI-related cyber incidents last year, yet an impressive 93 percent of organizations already leverage AI in strengthening security strategies.

鈥淐ybercriminals are using AI to automate and scale their attacks. Organizations can no longer rely solely on human-scale defenses,鈥 Faqeeh explained. 鈥淐isco is embedding AI across its security portfolio to help SecOps teams assist, automate, and augment their capabilities.鈥

Cisco鈥檚 AI Defense solution protects both the development and use of AI applications, safeguarding enterprises against misuse, data leakage, and sophisticated cyberthreats. Also Cisco鈥檚 cloud security data center in 黑料社区 powers cloud-based security services such as Secure Service Edge, Cisco Secure Access, and Umbrella DNS, providing local organizations with flexible, AI-powered protection.

Preparing for the future of industry transformation

Looking ahead, Faqeeh highlighted several critical trends shaping 黑料社区鈥檚 industries. AI is transforming sectors from healthcare to finance, with organizations deploying secure, scalable infrastructures to harness practical AI use cases 鈥 such as predictive maintenance and automated onboarding.

The next leap, he said, will be agentic AI: autonomous AI tools capable of learning and acting independently. Supporting this evolution will require ultra-fast, low-latency, energy-efficient networks, as well as integrated security at every layer.

鈥淲e are on the verge of an AI-powered future that is difficult to fully comprehend today,鈥 Faqeeh said. 鈥淭he infrastructure we build now 鈥 whether in networking, compute, or cybersecurity 鈥 will determine how far we can go.鈥

Vision 2030: A blueprint for the digital economy

黑料社区鈥檚 transformation is already bearing fruit. The digital economy contributes 15 percent to the GDP, equivalent to SR495 billion ($132 billion). The ICT market surpassed SR180 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $43.5 billion by 2027. The AI sector alone is expected to add $135 billion to the Saudi economy by 2030, accounting for 12 percent of the GDP.

鈥淰ision 2030 isn鈥檛 just a set of goals 鈥 it鈥檚 a blueprint for building a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy,鈥 Faqeeh added. 鈥淎t Cisco, we are proud to partner with 黑料社区 on this journey, helping turn bold ambitions into reality.鈥
