  • Flights from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia and India start the annual pilgrimage season

JEDDAH: 黑料社区鈥檚 Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser received the first group of Hajj pilgrims on Tuesday at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

The flight, carrying 396 pilgrims from Dhaka, Bangladesh, was one of several scheduled to arrive at Jeddah airport and Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah.

Al-Jasser said: 鈥淪ix main airports have been allocated to serve the pilgrims: King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah, Prince Abdulmohsen bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Yanbu, Taif International Airport, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.鈥

He said flights will continue until the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, supported by an integrated system of services to ease pilgrims鈥 journeys from arrival to departure, reinforcing the Kingdom鈥檚 leadership in serving the Two Holy Mosques and worshippers.

In another flight from Bangladesh, 414 pilgrims arrived at Jeddah airport and were received by Bangladesh Ambassador to 黑料社区 M. Delwar Hossain and officials from both countries.

The envoy extended his best wishes to the arriving Hajj pilgrims and assured them that the Bangladesh Embassy, consulate, and Hajj mission are always available to support them if needed.

The pilgrims expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome and efficient arrangements at the airport. A total of 87,100 people from Bangladesh are expected to perform Hajj this year.

The first flight carrying 442 beneficiaries of the Makkah Route Initiative from Islamabad, Pakistan, arrived in Madinah on Tuesday.

More than 89,000 Pakistani pilgrims will travel under the government鈥檚 scheme during Pakistan鈥檚 33-day Hajj flight operation.

Pilgrims will travel to Makkah and Madinah on 342 flights, with the last departing Pakistan on May 31.

Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, Pakistan鈥檚 minister for religious affairs, and Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki bid farewell to the pilgrims at the airport.

Yousaf advised Pakistani pilgrims to strictly adhere to 黑料社区鈥檚 laws and respect the local culture during the annual Islamic pilgrimage.

鈥淎s Hajj pilgrims, you are traveling to the sacred land as the guests of Allah and ambassadors of Pakistan, and you are urged to respect the laws and culture of 黑料社区,鈥 the minister said in a televised address as he bid farewell to the pilgrims.

Yousaf said he would 鈥渟oon鈥 travel to 黑料社区 to review Hajj arrangements.

鈥淚 will take every possible measure to resolve the issues faced by Pakistani pilgrims in 黑料社区 and will personally be among them to provide facilities,鈥 he added.聽

Yousaf said the government was pushing to extend the Makkah Route Initiative facilities to more Pakistani cities in the future.

Yousaf said each pilgrim was provided a mobile SIM card that contains an application, which can be used to guide pilgrims with directions in case they lose their way in Mina.

Meanwhile, the second Hajj flight of the day left from Pakistan鈥檚 eastern city of Lahore, carrying 150 pilgrims to Madinah via AirSial airline.

Six flights are scheduled to depart from Pakistan for the Kingdom on Tuesday: two from Lahore and one each from Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta and Multan.

This year鈥檚 annual pilgrimage will take place in June, with nearly 89,000 Pakistanis expected to travel to 黑料社区 under the government scheme and more than 23,620 Pakistanis expected to perform Hajj through private tour operators.

From Malaysia, the first group of Makkah Route Initiative pilgrims arrived in Madinah on Tuesday from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The initiative aims to provide high-quality services to pilgrims from participating countries. It includes completing all travel procedures in the pilgrims鈥 home countries, such as issuing electronic visas, confirming health status, and finalizing passport control at the departure airport.

Additionally, luggage is coded and sorted according to each pilgrim鈥檚 transport and accommodation arrangements in the Kingdom.

Upon arrival, pilgrims are transported to their residences in Makkah and Madinah, and their luggage is delivered directly to their accommodation.

The Makkah Route Initiative is a Ministry of Interior program implemented in cooperation with the ministries of foreign affairs, health, Hajj and Umrah, and other government entities.

The first group of Indian Hajj pilgrims also arrived in Madinah on Tuesday, when 262 pilgrims from Hyderabad were received by officials who greeted them with flowers and souvenirs.

Entry procedures were completed efficiently and smoothly, thanks to the coordinated efforts of various entities operating at the airport.

All relevant authorities have launched their operational plans to ensure the pilgrims鈥' smooth arrival and transfer to their accommodation in Madinah, reflecting the Kingdom鈥檚 strong commitment to facilitating the pilgrims鈥 journey and enabling them to perform their rituals with ease.聽

Greening initiative sees 31m trees planted in 黑料社区鈥檚 Eastern Province

RIYADH: More than 31 million trees have been planted in 黑料社区鈥檚 Eastern Province as part of a nationwide afforestation project, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

The trees were planted by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, working with 51 other entities, under a program launched in November.

The authorities aim to plant 1.5 billion trees in the province by 2100, rehabilitating more than 7.9 million hectares of land.

The scheme is part of the nationwide Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant 10 billion trees 鈥 600 million by 2030 鈥 and rehabilitate more than 40 million hectares of land.

As well as planting trees, the center has been engaged in a program of environmental monitoring, combating illegal logging and raising public awareness across the Eastern Province.

It also works to prevent sand encroachment in farming areas that are at risk of soil degradation and uses native plant species to populate its afforestation areas in order to maintain the ecological balance of local habitats.

The center also organizes the National Afforestation Season in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

The foundation鈥檚 CEO, Wael Bushah, said that its participation in GreenTech further demonstrates the Kingdom鈥檚 efforts to reinforce its leadership in the environmental sector on an international level.

The projects displayed included the planting of millions of mangrove trees, greening mosque areas, promoting community participation in environmental sanitation campaigns, and efforts to rehabilitate natural reserves in various regions of the Kingdom, all of which fall under the Saudi Green Initiative.

The foundation鈥檚 CEO, Wael Bushah, said that its participation in GreenTech further demonstrates the Kingdom鈥檚 efforts to reinforce its leadership in the environmental sector on an international level.

The exhibition, one of the world鈥檚 leading events focused on environmental innovations and sustainable agricultural technologies, is also an opportunity to build new partnerships and exchange expertise on the latest innovations in sustainable agriculture, afforestation, and ecosystem restoration.

Ultimately, Murooj aims to become an interactive platform for knowledge transfer and application, creating meaningful environmental and social impact in the Kingdom.

The foundation鈥檚 role of strengthening its international presence and exchanging successful experiences with various global environmental entities and organizations has been crucial to achieving the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative, founded under Saudi Vision 2030.

SGI, which celebrated its second anniversary earlier this year, has reinforced the Kingdom鈥檚 ambitions to become a key contributor to global efforts to combat climate change and enhance environmental sustainability by promoting renewable energy, protecting terrestrial and marine areas, and reaching net-zero domestically by 2060, among other initiatives.

  • Ali Al-Herz turned his home into a library of over 37,000 books, offering visitors space where memory, philosophy, culture come alive

DHAHRAN: In the quiet village of Umm Al-Hamam, located in 黑料社区鈥檚 Eastern Province, a lifelong passion for books has been transformed into a cultural haven.

Ali Al-Herz, a bibliophile and literary archivist, has turned his home into Jadal Library, a treasure trove of over 37,000 books, more than 100,000 newspapers and magazines, and antiques, some dating back more than a century.

Yet Jadal is not just a library; it is much more than that. It is a museum to explore, a philosophical space to reflect, and a stand against forgetting important cultural stories.

Al-Herz told Arab News: 鈥淪ince I was born I have been surrounded by my mother鈥檚 books. I grew up immersed in this passion to the point where it completely took hold of me; I became a bookworm.鈥

The spark that ignited it all was when Al-Herz encountered the epic 鈥淪irat Antar鈥 at age 13. 鈥淔rom that epic and through it, I began to look into other worlds,鈥 he said.

This curiosity and fascination ultimately led Al-Herz to create one of 黑料社区's most unique initiatives.

The name 鈥淛adal鈥 means 鈥渄ebate鈥 or 鈥渄iscussion鈥 in Arabic, reflecting the library鈥檚 curious spirit. For Al-Herz, the goal is not just to preserve texts but also to preserve the idea of questioning and exploring ideas.

Al-Herz said: 鈥淚 chose this name for the library because it is deeply rooted in ancient Greek philosophical history and in our own Arab-Islamic cultural tradition, particularly in our religious heritage.鈥

The philosophical atmosphere fills three main halls 鈥 named after Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle 鈥 which welcome visitors into a curated world of reading and reflection.

Rare manuscripts, ancient texts, newspapers, and antiques have been carefully archived. Each piece is a whisper from the past speaking into the future.

Al-Herz explained: 鈥淓ven my recent focus on buying books has mostly shifted toward rare editions and old prints, to create a harmony between heritage and modernity.鈥

But Jadal is not stuck in nostalgia, as every two weeks Al-Herz holds a literary gathering. The event brings back a tradition that was once important in the intellectual life of Arabs.

It is an environment where writers, scholars, and thinkers gather over Arabic coffee to exchange ideas in a vibrant atmosphere.

And in a time when people seek instant information online, Al-Herz still uses traditional methods. 鈥淭here is an ongoing struggle between two generations,鈥 he observed. 鈥淰ictory will ultimately go to this latter generation once my generation becomes extinct. Paper libraries will then be transformed into museums.鈥

Perhaps he is right; but for now, in the heart of Qatif鈥檚 countryside, Jadal Library lives on, and it is a place where ink, memory, debate, and heritage continue to shape the cultural soul of the Kingdom.
