  • National men鈥檚 team contests T20I tournament in Malaysia from April 24 to May 2

Thailand: The 黑料社区n senior men鈥檚 cricket team is in Malaysia to play in a Quadrangular T20I series against Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The tournament gets underway on Thursday, April 24 at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. 黑料社区 will face Thailand at 10 a.m. followed by Malaysia against Singapore at 2 p.m. Each team will play the others twice to determine the final and third place play-off contestants. These matches will be on May 2.

黑料社区 last played in a T20 international tournament in December 2024. That was the Gulf Cricket T20I Championship in Dubai, involving the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar, where the Saudi team produced an outstanding result against the UAE, the strongest team in the tournament.

黑料社区 made 182 for 8 in their 20 overs, Usman Khalid made 57 from 40 balls and the lower order all hit out strongly. The UAE compiled a third-wicket partnership of 144 and seemed to be cruising to victory, but Usman Najeeb claimed 4 for 25 as 黑料社区 won by 11 runs. This was their third victory in five matches, but Kuwait beat Oman, causing the Saudi team to miss out on a place in the final.

Usman Khalid impressed throughout the tournament, scoring 185 runs. Faisal Khan hit 166 runs, including 13 sixes, at the best strike rate of 182. Usman Najeeb took 10 wickets and Ishtiaq Ahmed had the best match figures in the tournament of 4 for 12.

黑料社区鈥檚 T20 credentials were displayed in early 2024 in Bangkok where the team won the second edition of the ACC Men鈥檚 Challenger Cup, part of the qualification pathway for the 2025 Asia Cup. In the final, 黑料社区 beat Cambodia by five wickets, both teams qualifying for the ACC Premier Cup.

In the Challenger Cup third place play-off in 2024, Singapore beat Japan by eight wickets. Singapore鈥檚 most recent T20I series was a 3-0 home defeat by Bahrain. In February 2025, the team played 50-over cricket in the Cricket World Cup Challenge League Group B, part of the qualification process for the 2027 World Cup but lost nine of ten matches and were eliminated.

Malaysia won the ICC T20 World Cup Asia A Qualifier on home soil in September 2024 but failed to win a single match when hosting a T20I tri-series against Bahrain and Hong Kong in March 2025. Bahrain beat Hong Kong by six wickets in the final, having become the first team in T20I history to fail to score a run in a super over play-off against the same opponents earlier in the tournament.

Thailand is the fourth team in the competition and has been a regular opponent for 黑料社区, who proved their superiority in the Challenger Cup and then in a series in Bangkok which followed.

黑料社区鈥檚 most recent contest against Thailand came in the Asia Qualifier B for the ICC T20 World Cup played in November 2024 in Doha when the Saudis defeated Thailand by five wickets. Neither team progressed from the tournament, both recording three wins and three defeats in six matches. Faisal Khan again showed his power with 18 sixes, while he and Abdul Waheed both hit centuries.

Thailand have an improving side, which includes three Indians who are involved in the coaching set-up as well as playing for the national team. Austin Lazarus is the captain and Akshaykumar Yadav opens the batting. All-rounder Nilesh Salekar was head coach of the Thailand women鈥檚 team for a World Cup qualifier in Lahore.

Malaysia are currently ranked 26th in the ICC world rankings. 黑料社区 are ranked 32nd, so could move into the world top 30 with a series of victories. Singapore are 38th and Thailand 55th, so it should be a closely contested tournament with all four teams offered the opportunity to move significantly in the world rankings. If recent form is a guide, then 黑料社区 has reason to be optimistic.

Concurrently with the senior tournament, 黑料社区鈥檚 young cricketers are getting the chance to compete in a high-quality under-16 cricket tournament arranged by the Asian Cricket Council. It is being held in Doha, Qatar, with matches played between April 23 and May 5.

The ACC U-16 West Zone Cup will feature the six best teams in the region playing in a five-match league. 黑料社区 will play 50-over matches against Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain, with a final in which the top two teams face each other to decide the eventual winners.

This will be a tough test for the 黑料社区n youngsters as they lost all five matches when the tournament was last held in Dubai in March 2023, when hosts the UAE, finished as champions after winning all five of their matches.

  • The group winners qualify directly for the World Cup with the runners-up going into the playoffs

TALLINN: Italy鈥檚 hopes of at least making the World Cup qualifying playoffs were given a boost with a 3-1 win away to Estonia on Saturday thanks to goals from Moise Kean, Mateo Retegui and Francesco Pio Esposito.
Italy failed to qualify for the last two World Cups, twice missing out in the playoffs, and the dreaded backdoor route now looks their most likely chance after Norway鈥檚 5-0 hammering of Israel in Group I earlier on Saturday.
The Norwegians are top on 18 points from six games. Italy have 12 points with a game in hand on their rivals and are three points clear of Israel. Estonia remain fourth on three points.
The group winners qualify directly for the World Cup with the runners-up going into the playoffs.
Italy raced into a fourth minute lead when Federico Dimarco played the ball into the feet of Kean who twisted and turned his way into the area before unleashing a shot into the far corner.
That was Kean鈥檚 fourth goal in three games for Italy, but the striker was forced off through injury shortly afterwards, replaced by Esposito whose only previous international appearance also came off the bench against Estonia in September.
Retegui won a penalty when fouled by Marten Kuusk but failed to convert as Karl Hein tipped his effort onto the post.
鈥淭he important thing is to create 鈥 missing goals and penalties can happen,鈥 Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso told RAI Sport. 鈥淭he boys are eager and continuing on the right path.鈥
The Italian forward made up for that miss when doubling the visitors鈥 lead seven minutes before the break. Riccardo Orsolini played a pass back from the byline and Retegui smashed the ball past Hein from just outside the six-yard box.

ESPOSITO OFF THE MARK
The second half was a tamer affair until Leonardo Spinazzola鈥檚 ball into the area was met first time by Esposito to net his first international goal in the 74th minute.
鈥淚鈥檓 very emotional, these are things you can鈥檛 explain or fully grasp in the moment,鈥 Esposito told Sky.
鈥淚 still need to process it, but I鈥檓 incredibly happy, everything happened so fast.鈥
Two minutes later and after Italy鈥檚 Gianluigi Donnarumma had been an onlooker for much of the game, the visiting keeper spilled Markus Soomets鈥 cross at the feet of substitute Rauno Sappinen for the easiest of tap-ins.
Italy host Israel on Tuesday where a win would cement second spot and, while they can still mathematically catch Norway on points, the Norwegians鈥 far superior goal difference means a playoff spot likely beckons for Gattuso鈥檚 side.
鈥淭here are many positive things, we have to follow our own path,鈥 Gattuso told Sky.
鈥淲e鈥檙e not thinking about Norway or Israel. We know what we have to do and we hold on to the good we鈥檝e done.鈥

UAE move closer to World Cup as late goals seal win over Oman
  • Caio Lucas hit the fortuitous winner seven minutes from time
  • The win moves the UAE to the cusp of their first appearance at the World Cup since 1990

DOHA: The United Arab Emirates struck late goals through Marcus Meloni and Caio Lucas to earn a 2-1 win over Oman in Doha on Saturday as Cosmin Olaroiu鈥檚 side battled back to keep their hopes of qualifying for next year鈥檚 World Cup alive.
Caio Lucas hit the fortuitous winner seven minutes from time after Meloni scored with a 76th minute header to cancel out an own goal by Kouame Kouadio that gave Oman a 12th minute lead.
The win moves the UAE to the cusp of their first appearance at the World Cup since 1990 with Olaroiu鈥檚 team only needing a draw away to Qatar on Tuesday to progress as winners of Group A in the fourth phase of Asia鈥檚 preliminaries.

The Omanis threatened in the early exchanges when Issam Al-Sabhi stole possession inside the UAE half only for the attack to fizzle out when his shot was eventually blocked. But it was not long before Carlos Queiroz鈥檚 side had taken the lead.
Ali Al-Busaidi鈥檚 cross from the left flew across the area to the feet of Amjad Al-Harthi whose shot took a deflection off Kouadio鈥檚 heel to beat goalkeeper Khalid Eissa low to his left.
Harib Abdalla鈥檚 introduction at the start of the second half injected much-needed urgency into the UAE attack, the forward twice calling keeper Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini into action.
With 14 minutes remaining the UAE deservedly pulled level, Meloni rising highest to meet substitute Ali Saleh鈥檚 inswinging cross from the left to beat Al-Mukhaini.
Seven minutes later Caio Lucas scored the winner, sending in a cross from the left that swung toward goal, bouncing on the turf inside the six-yard box and skipping beyond the keeper to earn UAE all three points.
The loss ends Oman鈥檚 hopes of automatic qualification but the Gulf state could still advance to another round of playoffs if the UAE defeat the Qataris by a large enough margin.
Japan, South Korea, Australia, Iran, Uzbekistan and Jordan have already taken six of Asia鈥檚 eight guaranteed spots at next year鈥檚 48-team World Cup.

Norway sweep Israel aside 5-0 as Haaland scores hat-trick
  • Norway have now won all six of their Group I matches, boasting a goal difference of plus 26
  • Haaland marked a special milestone by netting his 50th goal for Norway

OSLO: Norway secured a commanding 5-0 win at home to Israel in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, as Erling Haaland struck a hat-trick to celebrate his 50th international goal and helped move his side to the brink of a place at next year鈥檚 tournament.
Norway had tightened security ahead of the match due to scheduled protests, closing off the stands around a section of roughly 100 Israel supporters waving national flags.
Norwegian fans are divided over Israel鈥檚 participation in the World Cup qualifying competition due to the war in Gaza.
Norway have now won all six of their Group I matches, boasting a goal difference of plus 26 ahead of their remaining two fixtures against Estonia and second-placed Italy, who sit nine points behind with two games in hand.
Despite missing a twice-taken penalty early on, Haaland found his rhythm, scoring once in the first half and twice after the break to reach his 50-goal milestone and finishing the night with an incredible 51 in 46 internationals.
Israel added to their own misery with two own goals in the first half from Anan Khalaili and Idan Nachmias.

HIGH SECURITY

Ahead of Saturday鈥檚 game, hundreds of pro-Palestinian supporters gathered to protest outside the Norwegian parliament, with many wearing the jerseys of the Palestine national team.
Marching toward Ullevaal Stadium with Palestinian flags and flares, the protesters gathered outside, vowing to continue until kickoff as nearby buildings displayed pro-Palestinian banners hanging from balconies.
As Israel鈥檚 anthem played, loud boos echoed around the stadium, while large Palestinian flags and a banner reading 鈥淟et children live鈥 were displayed in the stands.
On the pitch, Haaland came close to scoring early on when Israel goalkeeper Daniel Peretz showcased his brilliance. First, he produced a sharp reflex save, then denied Haaland from the penalty spot twice after the kick was ordered to be retaken.
The match was briefly halted when a pitch invader ran onto the field, capping off a chaotic opening 10 minutes.
Relief finally came for the home fans in the 18th when Alexander Sorloth broke down the flank and sent in a low cross that deflected off Israel forward Khalaili and looped into the net, giving the Norwegians a deserved lead.
In the 27th minute Haaland made up for his penalty miss and doubled the lead after a through pass from Sorloth.
A minute later Norway went three goals up as a panicked clearance from Peretz struck his defender Nachmias and rolled into the net for Israel鈥檚 second own goal of the match.

HAALAND REACHES FIFTY-GOALS MILESTONE
In the second half, Haaland marked a special milestone by netting his 50th goal for Norway, heading in Antonio Nusa鈥檚 cross in the 63rd. Nine minutes later an almost identical move saw Haaland score again to complete his hat-trick and seal a memorable night for the Manchester City striker.
The home fans stayed behind after the match, singing 鈥楴orway will go to the World Cup鈥 to the tune of Twisted Sister鈥檚 鈥榃e鈥檙e Not Gonna Take It,鈥 as they celebrated in the belief that the long wait since 1998 to reach the finals again is nearly over.
鈥淲e still have two matches left to go. It鈥檚 great to execute such a solid game today,鈥 Nusa told TV2. 鈥淲e just have to enjoy it. There鈥檚 still a lot of work to do but I鈥檓 just enjoying it.鈥

  • Many demonstrators wore Palestinian keffiyeh shawls draped over their shoulders and waved Palestinian flags
  • 鈥淭he message today is to say we give the red card to Israel, to apartheid, and to genocide,鈥 said Line Khateeb, the head of the Norwegian Committee for Palestine

OSLO: Hundreds of people attended a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Oslo on Saturday ahead of Israel鈥檚 World Cup qualifier against Norway, chanting 鈥淔ree Palestine鈥 to protest against Israel鈥檚 鈥済enocide,鈥 AFP journalists reported.
Many demonstrators wore Palestinian keffiyeh shawls draped over their shoulders and waved Palestinian flags as they gathered in the city center before walking in a procession to the Ullevaal stadium.
Smoke flares were lit but the atmosphere remained calm.

鈥淭he message today is to say we give the red card to Israel, to apartheid, and to genocide,鈥 said Line Khateeb, the head of the Norwegian Committee for Palestine, one of the organizers of the protest.
鈥淲e do not accept football being used to whitewash war crimes, as we see today when Israel participates in the World Cup qualification games,鈥 she told AFP.
Demonstrators carried banners reading 鈥淓xclude Israel from International Football,鈥 鈥淔rom the River to the Sea,鈥 鈥淩ed Card to Israel鈥 and 鈥淚t鈥檚 a Genocide, Not a War.鈥
鈥淚srael has been committing genocide for the last two years and killing indiscriminately, doing the most horrible thing that could be imaginable,鈥 one of the demonstrators, Munib Sarwar, a 40-year-old engineer, told AFP.

鈥淲e need to show solidarity with the children and the people of Gaza who have been terrorized for the last two years,鈥 he added.
Organizers decided to go ahead with the demonstration despite the Gaza ceasefire deal reached Thursday between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not the end of the occupation. It doesn鈥檛 mean the West Bank is free. It doesn鈥檛 mean Palestine is free. We need to keep pushing and putting sanctions on Israel to hold them accountable in order to have a proper free Palestine,鈥 Khateeb said.
Heavy security was in place for the match.
Dozens of police officers on horseback and others in riot gear were posted near the stadium, an AFP journalist at the scene saw.
The head of the Norwegian football association, Lise Klaveness, recently said she was pushing 鈥渇or Israel to be sanctioned.鈥
鈥淧ersonally, I think that if Russia is excluded, Israel should be as well,鈥 she said in a Norwegian podcast.
Several days after Russia鈥檚 full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, UEFA and FIFA agreed to exclude Russian teams and clubs from all international competitions, a sanction that remains in place.
The Norwegian Football Association has previously said it would donate the proceeds from the ticket sales for Saturday鈥檚 match to Doctors Without Borders.
With five victories in five matches, Norway top Group I of European qualifying with 15 points ahead of Italy and Israel, who both have nine points.

  • Mbappe took two knocks during Friday鈥檚 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Azerbaijan
  • Liverpool defender Konate remained on the bench with a right thigh problem

PARIS: Kylian Mbappe and Ibrahima Konate have been ruled out of Monday鈥檚 2026 World Cup qualifier in Iceland where France could book their ticket to next year鈥檚 tournament.
Already suffering from a 鈥渟mall niggle鈥 in his right ankle from playing for Real Madrid, Mbappe took two knocks during Friday鈥檚 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Azerbaijan in Paris, where he opened the scoring but was substituted before the end of the match.
Liverpool defender Konate remained on the bench with a right thigh problem with his place against Iceland now taken by Marseille鈥檚 Benjamin Pavard.
Mbappe鈥檚 absence adds to the long list of forward unavailable for October鈥檚 World Cup qualifiers, which includes Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Marcus Thuram and Bradley Barcola.
After returning to the Clairefontaine training ground on Friday night, 鈥渢he French team captain spoke with (coach) Didier Deschamps who acknowledged his absence,鈥 the French federation (FFF) said in a statement.
Mbappe 鈥渉as been released to his club (Real Madrid) and will not be replaced,鈥 the FFF added, confirming hours later that Konate 鈥渉as returned to his club鈥檚 availability.鈥
Konate had joined the team with a slight injury and 鈥渦nderwent treatment and a specific protocol but will not be able to play Monday in Reykjavik,鈥 the FFF said.
Mbappe scored on the stroke of half-time against Azerbaijan and was then struck by a tackle from Rustam Ahmedzade. He took another knock to the same ankle late in the game, and was replaced by Florian Thauvin.
鈥淗e has a sore ankle and he took a knock there. He preferred to come off; the pain was quite significant,鈥 Deschamps said after the French victory.
Adrien Rabiot and the substitute Thauvin were also on the scoresheet as Deschamps鈥檚 team remain unbeaten after three games and top of Group D.
Les Bleus will book their passage to the United States, Canada and Mexico next year if they win in Iceland on Monday and Ukraine fail to beat Azerbaijan.
