LONDON: 黑料社区 and the UK on Sunday unveiled a new strategic partnership aimed at deepening collaboration between British financial and professional services firms and the Kingdom鈥檚 sustainable infrastructure developers.
The deal was announced by the Saudi Ministry of Investment, UK Department for Business and Trade and City of London Corp.
Central to the agreement is the establishment of the UK-Saudi Sustainable Infrastructure Assembly, a platform that will bring together companies, policymakers and industry experts from the two countries to shape the future of investment in the sector.
The assembly will initially focus on projects such as the new Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Co., led by 黑料社区鈥檚 Public Investment Fund, and the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Sustainable Sports City project, spearheaded by the Kingdom鈥檚 National Center for Privatization.
Set to launch next month in Riyadh, the assembly will also meet in London in June under the banner of the UK Government鈥檚 鈥淕reat Futures鈥 campaign, which showcases cooperation across trade, investment, tourism, education and culture. A final meeting will take place during the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh in the fall.
Among the Saudi members of the assembly are Deputy Assistant for Service Sectors at the Ministry of Investment Fahad Al-Hashem, and Hatim Alghamdi, Hisham Sumayli and Faisal Abdeen from the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
Sultan Al-Khalil, general manager of alternative funding at the National Debt Management Center, and Salman Badr, vice president of infrastructure advisory at the National Center for Privatization, will also take part.
The British side includes UK Export Finance CEO Tim Reid and Deputy Trade Commissioner for the Middle East Arabian Peninsula Peter Ashby.
As 黑料社区 pursues a $1 trillion infrastructure development pipeline as part of Vision 2030, the assembly is set to help strengthen business ties between the two countries.
Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih said: 鈥満诹仙缜 is driving one of the most ambitious infrastructure transformations in the world, with approximately $1 trillion committed to projects that are not only reshaping our cities but also setting new global benchmarks for sustainability.
鈥淭hrough Vision 2030, we are integrating cutting-edge technologies, green financing and world-class expertise to ensure that our infrastructure delivers long-term economic, social and environmental value.
鈥淭he City of London鈥檚 leading global expertise and innovative approach to sustainable finance, infrastructure governance and public-private partnerships complement our own ambitions.
鈥淥ur long-standing partnership with the UK spans decades, making the City of London a natural partner in achieving our shared vision for a more sustainable and prosperous future,鈥 he said.
UK Minister for Investment Poppy Gustafsson said the UK and 黑料社区 shared a deep commitment to driving sustainable economic growth and attracting global investment into transformational infrastructure projects.
鈥淭hese assemblies represent an opportunity to strengthen commercial ties between our two nations, ensuring that Saudi projects are well positioned to secure international capital and expertise through the UK.
鈥淭his landmark UK-Saudi collaboration exemplifies our 鈥楪reat Futures鈥 campaign, fostering partnerships that will drive sustainable development and prosperity, with the UK as a trusted partner in 黑料社区鈥檚 Vision 2030 journey.鈥
Lord Mayor of London Alastair King echoed the sentiment.
鈥淭his new partnership offers exciting opportunities for both countries,鈥 he said.
鈥淭he UK鈥檚 expertise in sustainable finance is in demand across the globe. We are world leaders because of our reputation for innovation, access to capital and world-class clusters of expertise.
鈥淭his assembly will identify new growth opportunities for Saudi infrastructure and will make it easier for UK firms to engage with 黑料社区鈥檚 thriving market.鈥

Estonian foreign minister says Israel鈥檚 unprecedented airstrike on Hamas negotiating team in Doha undermines international rules based order
Says landmark General Trade Agreement inked during state visit to Riyadh marks a turning point in bilateral ties between 黑料社区 and Estonia

RIYADH: Estonia鈥檚 Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has described his visit to 黑料社区 as 鈥渉istoric,鈥 citing a landmark trade agreement signed with the Kingdom this week and deepening cooperation on digital transformation, green energy, and innovation under Vision 2030.
In an interview with Arab News, Tsahkna outlined how the new General Trade Agreement marks a turning point in bilateral ties. He also addressed the wider crises shaking the Middle East and Europe 鈥 from Israel鈥檚 unprecedented airstrike in Qatar to Russia鈥檚 escalating war on Ukraine.
鈥淢y visit to 黑料社区 is, I can call it historic because we鈥檙e having very good relations bilaterally,鈥 Tsahkna said.
鈥淲e have had very high level meetings here. And also his highness, the prime minister visited Estonia. We have very good personal relations. But this time I came together with a business delegation, and these companies are mainly already in 黑料社区, in the region.鈥
The two countries signed their first comprehensive trade agreement on Tuesday in Riyadh, witnessed by Tsahkna and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
鈥満诹仙缜 values Estonia as a trusted partner in building future-ready solutions,鈥 Prince Faisal said in a statement following the signing.

鈥淭his agreement lays the foundation for deeper cooperation in digital government, clean energy, and advanced industries 鈥 strengthening ties between our nations and creating new opportunities for our people.鈥
The deal has already yielded results, with Estonian company Stargate Hydrogen inking two memoranda of understanding with Saudi entities including the Research, Development and Innovation Authority and NEOM鈥檚 ENOWA to accelerate green hydrogen development.
Tsahkna said there was a natural alignment between Estonia鈥檚 e-governance expertise and 黑料社区鈥檚 rapid transformation.
鈥満诹仙缜 has passed, already, a long way, fulfilling this Vision 2030,鈥 he said. 鈥淲hat we can offer as well from our side is experience, to change the public sector services.
鈥淭he principle, what we in Estonia have is that every person, every citizen, must be part of our services. There is no one we let down somewhere. And the digitalization of the public sector services allows that.鈥
Estonia is widely recognized as a global leader in digital governance, with 100 percent of public services available online and secure platforms such as its X-Road data exchange and e-ID system adopted in more than 20 countries.

Its expertise in cybersecurity and digital identity has already found applications in Gulf economies, making it a natural partner for 黑料社区鈥檚 efforts to modernize government and industry.
Estonia is already a member of the Riyadh-based Digital Cooperation Organization, a global multilateral body established in 2020 that aims to enable digital prosperity for all by accelerating the inclusive and sustainable growth of the digital economy.
鈥満诹仙缜 has a leading role in the region, but we take it, as well, as a gateway globally, out towards Africa and many other countries,鈥 said Tsahkna. 鈥淭his initiative (DCO) is interesting and very important for us as well.鈥
Tsahkna stressed that Estonia鈥檚 approach relies heavily on private sector innovation. 鈥淲hy I鈥檓 talking about the private sector is that we have a rule that we do our innovation together with the private sector, because innovation is coming from the private sector.
鈥淎nd this is something, exactly, what we see here as well. We launched the Saudi-Estonian Business Council here as well, so this is something that our businesses can work together on as well 鈥 government-to-government agreements.鈥
Tsahkna also pointed to renewable energy as a key area for mutual learning. 鈥淲e have set a goal for renewable energy for 2030,鈥 he said. It鈥檚 really ambitious. And there are many things we can learn from 黑料社区.

鈥淲e have some technologies that maybe we can develop together, but also we need this expertise in Estonia, because we have the same goals actually to fulfill, even if we鈥檙e geographically a bit far away from each other.鈥
The Estonian foreign minister used his interview with Arab News to address Israel鈥檚 unprecedented airstrike in Qatar on Tuesday, which targeted senior Hamas leaders, including their chief negotiator, during active ceasefire talks with the US and Israel.
The strike took place in the West Bay Lagoon district and killed six people, including a Qatari security officer.
Israel claimed the operation was in response to the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks and a recent shooting in Jerusalem, insisting it was a unilateral act meant to target those orchestrating violence against Israelis.
Qatar, a key US ally and longtime mediator in Gaza ceasefire negotiations, denounced the attack as a grave violation of international law and its sovereignty, with reactions of outrage and condemnation from much of the international community.
鈥淲e are living in very intense times. And the Israeli attack against Qatar, we have loudly condemned,鈥 Tsahkna said. 鈥淲e discussed this matter as well, with his highness, the (Saudi) foreign minister. So our position is very clear. This is a question of sovereignty, which is, for Estonia, a question of principle.鈥

Drawing a parallel with Russian attacks in Europe, he warned of a wider erosion of international rules.
鈥淲e saw close to 20 military drones entering NATO territory in Poland and NATO planes were (launched). So what I say, this is like the domino effect about the international rules and international law.
鈥淎nd this is something we share as well, the same principles, with 黑料社区 and the other colleagues and partners, because, it鈥檚 like the domino effect, if someone is going to break the rules, everybody鈥檚 going to try that.鈥
Tsahkna reiterated Estonia鈥檚 consistent position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 鈥淓stonia has had a very clear position over the years in supporting the two-state solution, and that is the only way out from this conflict,鈥 he said.
鈥淯nfortunately, we don鈥檛 see the progress and goodwill as well. And of course, the attack against Qatar doesn鈥檛 support this process at all because Qatar and also 黑料社区 and many other countries here in the region are playing the key role for bringing these negotiations together.鈥
He confirmed that Estonia will join the declaration on two states during the upcoming UN General Assembly week. 鈥淭his humanitarian catastrophe is really, really something we don鈥檛 want to see,鈥 he added, referring to the situation in Gaza.

Asked about the forthcoming Saudi-French summit on a two-state solution in New York, Tsahkna said: 鈥淚鈥檓 a very optimistic person. And Estonia is supporting, clearly, over the years, not only by words but by actions as well, the two-state solution.
鈥淚t is a good initiative. 黑料社区 and France are pushing it heavily. But we can adopt declarations, which is very important, and there will be more governments who are recognizing Palestine as a state as well, but the main importance is: What can we do in real life?鈥
He cautioned, however, that political will is still lacking. 鈥淚n real life, unfortunately, we see no willingness for even a ceasefire. Exactly the same thing is happening with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and Russia against Ukraine.鈥
He added: 鈥淓very night we see more than 800 attacks against the civilian people in Ukraine. And unfortunately, Putin has no willingness for any kind of peace, even a ceasefire.鈥
For Tsahkna, the Riyadh visit is about much more than one-off business deals. 鈥淲e are here for long term commitments and our businesses are here to stay. And also the other way around.
鈥淓stonia is the best country and we have the best environment for startup, for investments. We have 12 unicorns. It means more than $1 billion companies coming from Estonia. We may not seem to be a very big country, but actually we have 1.3 million people living there.鈥

Despite geographical distance, he insisted that Estonia and 黑料社区 share more common challenges than many realize.
鈥淚t鈥檚 values based cooperation. And we see as well that, on an educational, cultural level, we can have more cooperation,鈥 he said.
鈥淚 feel here as well that we need to talk more about what we have done in Estonia, because I think that people don鈥檛 know what we really do as a small Nordic country, somewhere in the north.
鈥淏ut in real life we have more similarities, more challenges actually together than we actually think. So this is our duty.鈥

RIYADH: Estonia鈥檚 Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has strongly condemned Israel鈥檚 airstrike on the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday, describing it as a violation of sovereignty and warning of a dangerous erosion of international law.
Speaking to Arab News during a visit to 黑料社区 this week, Tsahkna said: 鈥淲e are living in very intense times. And the Israeli attack against Qatar, we have loudly condemned.

RIYADH: 黑料社区 rejects and condemns Israeli attacks in the region, including Tuesday鈥檚 鈥渂rutal aggression against鈥 Qatar, the Kingdom鈥檚 Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has said.
Israel attempted to kill the political leaders of Hamas with an airstrike on Qatar on Tuesday. The attack drew condemnation from 黑料社区, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and the European Union, and risks derailing Gaza ceasefire talks.
In an annual address to the Shoura Council that he delivered on behalf of King Salman on Wednesday, the crown prince said Tuesday鈥檚 attack necessitates Arab, Islamic, and international action to confront such aggression.
International measures to deter the Israeli military from their criminal practices of destabilizing the region鈥檚 security and stability are also needed, the crown prince said.
鈥淲e will stand with Qatar without limit in all its actions, and we will harness all our capabilities to achieve this. We also condemn the continued brutal attacks against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the persistence of the crimes of starvation and forced displacement,鈥 the crown prince said.
鈥淭he land of Gaza is Palestinian, and the rights of its people are inalienable and cannot be taken away by aggression or nullified by threats. Our position remains unwavering: to protect this right and work diligently to prevent its violations.
鈥淭he Arab Peace Initiative, launched by the Kingdom in 2002 and implemented internationally through the perspective of a two-state solution, represents today an unprecedented path to achieving a Palestinian state,鈥 the crown prince said.
The Kingdom鈥檚 intensive efforts have borne fruit, resulting in more countries recognizing the State of Palestine, and the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution that was held in New York in July garnered unprecedented momentum, the crown prince said.

RIYADH: The Saudi Irrigation Organization participated in the third meeting of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The meeting was held alongside the fourth World Irrigation Forum and was attended by members of the high-level advisory group, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.
Mohammed bin Zaid Abu-Haid, the organization鈥檚 CEO, said that irrigation is no longer just an agricultural issue but a strategic matter tied to national resilience, food security, and environmental sustainability.
He said water-scarce countries face major challenges, since agriculture consumes the largest share of water, while the Kingdom鈥檚 main agricultural water sources are largely non-renewable 鈥 making this a strategic priority for 黑料社区鈥檚 water sector.
Abu-Haid highlighted the Kingdom鈥檚 efforts to develop sustainable and reusable water sources, with the organization leading the transition through capacity building, sector excellence, and regulation to ensure sustainability.
He concluded by inviting the commission鈥檚 members and international partners to participate in the 11th World Water Forum, scheduled for 2027 in Riyadh.
Meeting participants emphasized that modernizing irrigation and agricultural infrastructure, based on integrated water resources management, is essential for sustainable food security amid climate change, water scarcity, and rising food demand.
