In the vast deserts of the Kingdom, something remarkable is happening. Barren sand is being transformed into fertile soil, and at the heart of this transformation are 黑料社区 women.

As a scientist working in sustainability, I expected to be part of an ambitious vision for environmental restoration. What I did not expect was that women would be leading this effort, applying cutting-edge science to revive the land.

黑料社区 is at a defining moment in its sustainability journey. With Vision 2030鈥檚 Green Saudi Initiative, the Kingdom is making bold investments in reforestation, food security, and climate-resilient agriculture.

But what often goes unrecognized is that Saudi women are leading it.

Saudi women now make up 40 percent of science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, graduates, outpacing many Western countries. But they are not just entering labs. They are leading groundbreaking projects in land restoration, from researching water-saving solutions to applying innovative soil technology.

Their presence is growing in some of the Kingdom鈥檚 most critical sectors, including climate science, sustainable agriculture, and land restoration. In my own work, I see this firsthand.

Whether in research labs, universities, or the field, Saudi women are leading projects that turn deserts into fertile land, improve water conservation, and develop solutions for a greener future.

One of 黑料社区鈥檚 biggest environmental challenges is desertification 鈥 the loss of arable land due to climate conditions and soil degradation. It requires scientific breakthroughs, innovation, and long-term commitment.

Across the country, Saudi women are rising to meet it.

Whether in research labs, universities, or the field, Saudi women are leading projects that turn deserts into fertile land, improve water conservation, and develop solutions for a greener future.

At Saudi Desert Control, we use Liquid Natural Clay to turn desert sand into fertile soil by increasing its ability to retain water and nutrients. Women scientists and engineers are leading the application of this technology, ensuring that 黑料社区 can produce food sustainably in one of the world鈥檚 most arid climates.

Across the Kingdom, female researchers and agricultural engineers are reducing water consumption, implementing regenerative farming techniques, and introducing climate-resilient crops.

Science thrives on diverse perspectives. In sustainability and agriculture 鈥 fields that directly impact communities 鈥 the inclusion of women leads to better decision-making, smarter solutions, and long-term resilience.

Many of the most forward-thinking, practical solutions I have encountered in 黑料社区 come from female scientists and engineers. Their leadership is making 黑料社区鈥檚 sustainability push more effective, inclusive, and future-proof.

黑料社区鈥檚 transformation is often spoken of as something coming in the future. But working alongside incredible female colleagues, I can confidently say the future is already here.

Saudi women are not just part of this change 鈥 they are turning sand into soil and shaping a more sustainable world.

I for one celebrate the women leading STEM fields, restoring land, conserving resources, and ensuring that 黑料社区鈥檚 next chapter is one of sustainability.

To the young women of 黑料社区 pursuing science and sustainability 鈥 your work will define the future. And the future is now.

Trump says his administration 鈥榠dentified funds鈥 to pay troops during shutdown
  • Trump made the announcement on the 11th day of a government shutdown that was sparked by a funding impasse with minority congressional Democrats

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday his administration has found a way to pay troops during the federal government shutdown and that he has ordered Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth to do so.
鈥淚 am using my authority, as Commander in Chief, to direct our Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our Troops PAID on October 15th,鈥 the president wrote in a Truth Social post.
鈥淲e have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS,鈥 said Trump.
Trump did not identify funding sources or the total amount that would be used for troop salaries.
The Pentagon and White House did not immediately respond to a request for details on the funds that would be used.
Trump made the announcement on the 11th day of a government shutdown that was sparked by a funding impasse with minority congressional Democrats.
Trump鈥檚 Republican Party controls the House of Representatives and the Senate. But to reach the 60 votes needed in the Senate to pass a spending bill, Republicans must convince at least seven Democratic senators to back the measure.
Democrats are using that leverage to push for continuing and expanding health care subsidies for people who buy insurance through the Affordable Care Act. Democratic lawmakers have refused to back a government spending bill that does not address the issue.
In his Truth Social post, Trump said he would 鈥渘ot allow the Democrats to hold our Military, and the entire Security of our Nation HOSTAGE with their dangerous Government shutdown.鈥
He pledged to work with the Democrats on health care if they agree to reopen the government.
With no signs of a resolution to the impasse any time soon, the administration on Friday began making good on Trump鈥檚 threat to lay off thousands of federal workers.
On Saturday, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries called minority Democrats back to Washington for a Tuesday evening meeting 鈥渢o discuss a path forward in connection with the Republican shutdown and the health care crisis they have created.鈥
He issued the summons even though House Speaker Mike Johnson has said he will not schedule any legislative sessions until the shutdown ends.

  • The group winners qualify directly for the World Cup with the runners-up going into the playoffs

TALLINN: Italy鈥檚 hopes of at least making the World Cup qualifying playoffs were given a boost with a 3-1 win away to Estonia on Saturday thanks to goals from Moise Kean, Mateo Retegui and Francesco Pio Esposito.
Italy failed to qualify for the last two World Cups, twice missing out in the playoffs, and the dreaded backdoor route now looks their most likely chance after Norway鈥檚 5-0 hammering of Israel in Group I earlier on Saturday.
The Norwegians are top on 18 points from six games. Italy have 12 points with a game in hand on their rivals and are three points clear of Israel. Estonia remain fourth on three points.
The group winners qualify directly for the World Cup with the runners-up going into the playoffs.
Italy raced into a fourth minute lead when Federico Dimarco played the ball into the feet of Kean who twisted and turned his way into the area before unleashing a shot into the far corner.
That was Kean鈥檚 fourth goal in three games for Italy, but the striker was forced off through injury shortly afterwards, replaced by Esposito whose only previous international appearance also came off the bench against Estonia in September.
Retegui won a penalty when fouled by Marten Kuusk but failed to convert as Karl Hein tipped his effort onto the post.
鈥淭he important thing is to create 鈥 missing goals and penalties can happen,鈥 Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso told RAI Sport. 鈥淭he boys are eager and continuing on the right path.鈥
The Italian forward made up for that miss when doubling the visitors鈥 lead seven minutes before the break. Riccardo Orsolini played a pass back from the byline and Retegui smashed the ball past Hein from just outside the six-yard box.

ESPOSITO OFF THE MARK
The second half was a tamer affair until Leonardo Spinazzola鈥檚 ball into the area was met first time by Esposito to net his first international goal in the 74th minute.
鈥淚鈥檓 very emotional, these are things you can鈥檛 explain or fully grasp in the moment,鈥 Esposito told Sky.
鈥淚 still need to process it, but I鈥檓 incredibly happy, everything happened so fast.鈥
Two minutes later and after Italy鈥檚 Gianluigi Donnarumma had been an onlooker for much of the game, the visiting keeper spilled Markus Soomets鈥 cross at the feet of substitute Rauno Sappinen for the easiest of tap-ins.
Italy host Israel on Tuesday where a win would cement second spot and, while they can still mathematically catch Norway on points, the Norwegians鈥 far superior goal difference means a playoff spot likely beckons for Gattuso鈥檚 side.
鈥淭here are many positive things, we have to follow our own path,鈥 Gattuso told Sky.
鈥淲e鈥檙e not thinking about Norway or Israel. We know what we have to do and we hold on to the good we鈥檝e done.鈥

  • 鈥淚鈥檓 happy about this day because it comes at a time when there is finally hope there too,鈥 said Laloum as Aboudagga looked on, referring to the expected return of Israeli hostages and the release of Palestinian prisoners

PARIS: A new restaurant opened its doors in Paris on Saturday, founded by a Palestinian from Gaza and a Franco-Israeli, aiming to promote reconciliation through food.
The Palestinian, French and Israeli flags fly from the ceiling of 鈥沦补产补产补, the Taste of Peace,鈥 where the first customers packed in to eat hummus, falafel or Gazan salad.
Radjaa Aboudagga and his team have been toiling since 6:00 am to create the Middle Eastern dishes for families and friends of all ages seated on mats or at tables.
鈥淓verything is handmade,鈥 said Aboudagga, a Franco-Palestinian originally from the Gaza Strip, in the restaurant鈥檚 crowded kitchen, as he prepares 鈥渕anakish,鈥 a flatbread topped with cheese, ground beef and herbs.
The restaurant, which will be open four nights a week until June next year, was conceived with Franco-Israeli Edgar Laloum, in partnership with the 鈥淣ous reconcilier鈥 (We Reconcile) group.
鈥淚鈥檓 happy about this day because it comes at a time when there is finally hope there too,鈥 said Laloum as Aboudagga looked on, referring to the expected return of Israeli hostages and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Laloum, who lived for 30 years in Jerusalem, said the restaurant鈥檚 menu is made of 鈥渄ishes that Israelis and Palestinians eat in the same way.鈥
鈥淭he two peoples, Palestinian and Israeli, have the same customs, the same dreams, the same tears and the same sadness,鈥 added Aboudagga.
鈥淲e share the same land, we all have to live together on it,鈥 he added, welcoming the decision of the French government and others to recognize a state of Palestine.

- Joie de vivre -

The restaurant is housed at the Consulat Voltaire, an old electricity sub-station turned cultural center, in the 11th district of Paris near the place de la Bastille.
One customer, Raphael, who did not want to give his last name, told AFP that the three flags were 鈥渟ymbolic.鈥
鈥淚t鈥檚 very beautiful and I was explaining to my son that, in the end, we can all live together.鈥
Another diner, Henri Poulain, 57, said he saw it as a sign of 鈥渞econciliation鈥 and 鈥渁 link between the French Republic on the one hand鈥 and 鈥渢hese two states, one of which has yet to be born.鈥
Even if the war were to resume in the Gaza Strip, he said he was convinced 鈥渋t wouldn鈥檛 weaken a place like this.鈥
Psychosociologist Joelle Bordet, 72, said she thought the word 鈥渞econciliation鈥 was 鈥渢oo strong.鈥
鈥淛ust being together in the same space, when you鈥檙e effectively enemies, is extraordinary,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 do it today in my network with Russians and Ukrainians.鈥
Next to Bordet was Nour-Eddine Skiker, head of the 鈥淛alons pour la paix鈥 association, some of whose volunteers came with a local youth council group to lend a hand.
鈥淚n this very small space, there is room for everyone,鈥 he said.
One of the young volunteers, Mboreha Ahamed, 23, added: 鈥淏eing here under these three flags is super symbolic... over a meal where we think of other things.鈥
At about 2:00 pm, the queue to order mezze was long.
Readings of poems in Hebrew, Arabic and French, discussion groups and concerts were all planned, all, in the words of the restaurant鈥檚 founders, in the spirit of 鈥渏oie de vivre鈥 鈥 the meaning of 鈥沦补产补产补鈥 in both Israel and the Palestinian Territories.

  • 9,500 missing after Israeli onslaught

RIYADH: Gaza鈥檚 civil defense authorities on Saturday discovered 155 bodies of Palestinians in the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israel, and rescue teams reported that around 9,500 Palestinians remained missing in the besieged territory.

Local authorities cataloged the catastrophic destruction of 85 percent of Khan Younis and Gaza City as hundreds of thousands of war-weary families picked their way through rubble-strewn streets, only to find many of their homes in ruins.

A fragile calm descended upon the Gaza Strip following the implementation of the first phase of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, reported the Palestine Chronicle.

On the second day of the truce, the scale of the recovery operation was daunting, even as negotiations and preparations for a prisoner swap continued.

鈥淢ore than half a million people have returned to Gaza (City) since yesterday,鈥 said Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the civil defense.

In an early sign that much political wrangling remains, a senior Hamas official said it was 鈥渙ut of the question鈥 that the Palestinian movement would disarm, as required by the plan, even if it steps aside from Gaza鈥檚 government.

The Israeli 鈥済enocidal crimes鈥 have left more than 67,000 Palestinians dead and 170,000 injured, most of whom are children and women, said the Palestinian Wafa news agency.

A famine has claimed the lives of 460 people, including 154 children, it added.

Israel鈥檚 army chief Eyal Zamir conducted a field tour in Gaza with US envoy to the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and the commander of CENTCOM, Admiral Brad Cooper, the Israeli military said.

New drone footage shows few buildings still standing in the Tal Al-Hawa neighborhood. The rest appear to be gutted. Piles of debris rise well above the tops of vehicles. Roads are shrouded in concrete dust.

鈥淚s that what is left of Gaza? We are returning to no homes and no shelter for our kids, and winter is approaching,鈥 said Shreen Aboul Yakhni, a resident.
