RIYADH: King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre Riyadh has secured the top spot among hospitals in Arab and African countries.

The hospital confirmed its position as the top hospital in 黑料社区 for the fourth consecutive year, according to Newsweek鈥檚 2025 ranking of the world鈥檚 best hospitals.

KFSHRC jumped 20 places from last year鈥檚 list, a 9 percent improvement in the prestigious ranking, according to the hospital鈥檚 statement to Arab News.

The Saudi hospital is ranked 209th in the global ranking and is the only health facility from Arab and African countries on the list.

More than 2,400 hospitals were ranked this year, with an annual list of the top 250 hospitals published by Newsweek.

According to global data platform Statista, the number of hospitals worldwide is projected to reach 215,977 by 2026.

鈥淲ith an overwhelming number of hospitals to choose from to close the gap and help prospective patients find the best care possible, Newsweek and Statista are proud to present the World鈥檚 Best Hospitals 2025, which shares the top hospitals worldwide,鈥 Newsweek鈥檚 World's Best Hospitals 2025 reported on its website.

This year鈥檚 ranking lists the best hospitals in 30 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, 黑料社区, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the UAE, the United Kingdom and the United States. These countries were selected based on numerous comparability factors, such as standard of living, life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals and data availability.

The ranking is based on an extensive evaluation process, including an online survey of thousands of medical experts (doctors, hospital managers and healthcare professionals), patient experience data, hospital quality metrics and a Patient-Reported Outcome Measures implementation survey.

KFSHRC鈥檚 excellence is demonstrated through groundbreaking achievements such as the world鈥檚 first fully robotic heart transplant and the first fully robotic implantation of an artificial heart pump.

In 2024, KFSHRC set a record with 1,111 organ transplants in a year, including 500 successful kidney transplants through the paired exchange program, reinforcing its status as a global leader in complex surgeries and organ transplantation.

The hospital also provided advanced medical care to patients from 17 countries, solidifying 黑料社区鈥檚 position as a premier destination for healthcare.

Notably, KFSHRC was ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa and 15th globally in the list of the world鈥檚 top 250 Academic Medical Centers for the second consecutive year and has been recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East, according to the 2025 Brand Finance rankings, the hospital said.

Heritage of date preservation continues in Al-Jouf

RIYADH: Among the many inherited traditional social practices in the Al-Jouf region is the custom of 鈥渟tuffing鈥 dates.

Fresh dates harvested in the summer are preserved in a way that ensures they can be stored safely and eaten throughout the winter.

Despite developing agricultural production techniques that are used in modern factories, families in the region hold to this ancient tradition.

Ahmed Al-Arfaj and his family carry out the process of stuffing and preserving their farm鈥檚 date harvest every year and he is keen to teach it to his children 鈥 who will pass it on to future generations in turn.

They rely on the production of Hilwah Al-Jouf dates, he explained, with the start of the process being what is known as 鈥淎l-Laqat鈥 (picking) or 鈥淎l-Haddad鈥 (harvesting). The dates are then dried under the sun鈥檚 rays to ensure all the moisture evaporates.

The next stage is 鈥淎l-Taqmi鈥樷 (sorting), where the pits are extracted and any unsuitable dates removed. They are then packed into containers and tightly sealed; a modern technique, as previously large clay vessels called 鈥淎l-Khawabi鈥 were used for storage.

Al-Arfaj added the custom was known locally as 鈥淎l-Maknuz鈥 (preserving). It is used to produce date molasses and 鈥淎l-Mujarrash鈥 (processed) dates in which the sugars have crystallized, giving them a unique taste and flavor.

The Al-Jouf region celebrates its production with the annual date festival held in Dumat Al-Jandal. As well as highlighting the various types of dates, the event serves as an important marketing tool.

Analysts hail Saudi-Pakistan defense pact as step toward regional stability

KARACHI: 黑料社区 and Pakistan signed a Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement on Wednesday, pledging that aggression against one country would be treated as an attack on both, in what experts described as a landmark move that reflects shifting global alignments and decades of close cooperation between the two allies.

The accord was concluded in Riyadh during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif鈥檚 meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Sharing a copy of the joint statement on X early on Thursday, Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman described the two nations as 鈥淥ne front against any aggressor ... Always
and forever.鈥
Pakistani analysts meanwhile said the agreement underscored both countries鈥 intent to formalize longstanding security ties while also reflecting broader shifts in the regional and global order.
鈥淭he defense pact between Pakistan and KSA (Kingdom of 黑料社区) 鈥 will have a long-term impact on the power matrix of both South Asia and the Middle East,鈥 Huma Baqai, an academic and foreign affairs expert, told Arab News.
鈥淭his development is definitely indicative of a changing global order and new alliances in the making. It may also result in a domino effect of more Gulf and Arab states seeking such alliances with Pakistan.鈥
She said 黑料社区鈥檚 decision was a recognition of Pakistan鈥檚 military capabilities, demonstrated during its May 2025 conflict with India.
The two South Asian neighbors fought a four-day war earlier this year after an attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that New Delhi blamed on Islamabad. Pakistan denied involvement, but the hostilities 鈥 the deadliest since 2019 鈥 left more than 70 people dead before a US-brokered ceasefire took effect.
In Islamabad鈥檚 telling, it shot down at least six Indian aircraft during the fighting and forced New Delhi to agree to a ceasefire.

Security analyst Syed Muhammad Ali described the accord as 鈥渋nternational recognition that Pakistan is not just a South Asian power but a power which can contribute toward preserving peace and security in the Middle East as well.鈥
He said 鈥淪audi confidence in Pakistan鈥檚 military is evidence that the international community views Pakistan as a capable and responsible power after Islamabad gave a befitting response to New Delhi in the May 2025 conflict.鈥
Defense analyst Muhammad Samrez Salik, a retired major general, said the agreement would build on more than eight decades of close security ties between the two countries:
鈥淭he latest defense pact will augur well for the defense and security of both nations and for regional stability. KSA has recognized that and decided to benefit from Pakistan鈥檚 military capabilities. I expect and hope that KSA will also help Pakistan achieve economic stability.鈥
Baqai added that the pact could also be seen 鈥渁s a positive development which would definitely have a ripple effect on the Pakistani economy.鈥
Jeddah-based Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain, a former Pakistani federal minister, said the pact 鈥渟ymbolizes the trust, fraternity, and unshakable bond that has always existed between our two nations 鈥 rooted in faith, mutual respect and common destiny.鈥
He added that this remarkable milestone  embodies the shared vision of the crown prince 鈥渇or a secure, prosperous, and united Muslim Ummah.鈥
Earlier on Thursday, Sharif wrote on X that talks with the Saudi crown prince covered a wide range of issues, including regional challenges and steps to enhance bilateral cooperation.
鈥淥n the bilateral front, I greatly value HRH鈥檚 consistent support and his keen interest in expanding Saudi investments, trade and business ties between our two countries,鈥
he posted.
鈥淚t is my fervent prayer that Pakistan-黑料社区鈥檚 friendship continues to flourish and attain new heights of glory.鈥
