黑料社区 set for ICC Men鈥檚 T20 World Cup qualifier in Qatar

黑料社区 set for ICC Men鈥檚 T20 World Cup qualifier in Qatar
  • 黑料社区 are familiar with their rivals after taking part alongside them all in T20 tournaments this year

Qualification for the 2026 ICC Men鈥檚 T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka, is in full swing. From Nov. 19-28, Doha takes center stage for Asia Sub-Regional Qualifier Group B.

With seven nations taking part it looks set to be an exciting competition, with 黑料社区, Bahrain, Bhutan, Cambodia, Thailand and the UAE joining hosts Qatar. The teams are competing for the last two places in the Asia-East Asia-Pacific regional final, to be held in Malaysia in August 2025.

Malaysia and Kuwait emerged successfully from the Asia Group A qualifier, while Samoa and Japan won the East Asia-Pacific A and East Asia-Pacific B qualifiers, respectively. Nepal, Oman and Papua New Guinea have already qualified by virtue of taking part in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies.

The seven teams competing for these last two places will play in a round robin league, with the top two teams in the table progressing to the next qualifier.

黑料社区 are familiar with their rivals after taking part alongside them all in T20 tournaments this year. These matches were in either the Asia Cricket Council T20 Challenger Cup in Thailand or the ACC Premier Cup that followed in Nepal. In the Challenger Cup, 黑料社区 convincingly beat Bhutan, Thailand, Japan and Cambodia in Bangkok, the latter in the final. This maintained their excellent record in Thailand, where they won the ACC 50-over version in 2023.

黑料社区鈥檚 convincing qualification in February for the ACC T20 Premier Cup provided an opportunity for the team to test itself against strong opposition in Nepal. The bridge proved too large to gap, however, as only one match out of four played was won.

This ought not to be the case in the current Asia Group B qualifier in Qatar. The UAE are arguably favorite to win, sitting 16th in the ICC T20I men鈥檚 rankings. Closest to them are Bahrain (26), Qatar (28) and 黑料社区 (33). Behind them come Cambodia, ranked 42nd, Thailand in 59th and Bhutan in 77th. 黑料社区 have comfortably beaten each of them in the ACC T20 Challenger Cup so it is the matches against the three higher-ranking teams that are likely to prove crucial.

Three matches will be played each day for 10 days at either the West End Park International Cricket Stadium or the University Stadium in Doha from Nov. 19. 黑料社区鈥檚 first match is against Bahrain, who are just ahead in the T20I rankings.

If the Saudi team can start their campaign with a victory, they will have a good chance of challenging for one of the top two spots in the table 鈥 and a place in the Asia-East Asia-Pacific regional final. From there, the dream is the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Palestine Olympic chief writes open letter pleading for help to stop Gaza genocide
  • 鈥淭his is a final alarm bell for all of humanity, and that includes our global sports family,鈥 Rajoub wrote
  • 鈥淐an the Olympic Movement, our movement, stand idly by while the most fundamental human right 鈥 the right to life 鈥 is violated against its own members?鈥

TOKYO: Lt. Gen. Jibril Rajoub, the President of the Palestine Olympic Committee, has sent an open letter 鈥渋n the name of Palestine and its athletes鈥 to ask the sporting world and the world at large to help stop the genocide in Gaza.
Rajoub said he was sending his message, which was also sent to Arab News Japan, 鈥渇rom the heart of a wounded Palestine鈥 from amidst the rubble of our stadiums and the wreckage of our hopes鈥 after 鈥718 days of a relentless, merciless war of annihilation.鈥
鈥淭his is a final alarm bell for all of humanity, and that includes our global sports family,鈥 Rajoub wrote, asking for help in stopping 鈥渁 genocide that is uprooting my people from their land, their history, and their future.鈥
He reminded his readers that those in the Olympic movement swore to protect, to place sport 鈥渁t the service of the harmonious development of humanity,鈥 and to promote 鈥渁 peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.鈥
Where is that dignity for the Palestinian athlete, he asked, reminding the world that over 1,000 athletes have been killed, while thousands more are wounded, maimed, or disabled. Others, he says are 鈥渋n the darkness of prisons,鈥 while tens of thousands are displaced.
鈥淐an the Olympic Movement, our movement, stand idly by while the most fundamental human right 鈥 the right to life 鈥 is violated against its own members? The Israeli sports system has not merely been silent; it has been an active participant. It brazenly integrates settlement clubs 鈥 built illegally on my land 鈥 into its national leagues, in a flagrant violation of international law and our own Olympic Charter.鈥
In a final plea, Jibril Rajoub says: 鈥淪how the world that our Olympic values are not merely empty words on paper, but a living commitment to our shared humanity. Show them that there is no place for double standards, only for the rule of justice and fairness, without distinction or discrimination.鈥

Alcaraz dispels injury fears to reach Tokyo quarter-finals
  • The world number one hurt himself two days earlier in his opening match in Tokyo
  • The Spaniard was left sweating on his fitness but he showed no evidence of discomfort

TOKYO: Carlos Alcaraz admitted his ankle injury had worried him and was on his mind as he beat Belgium鈥檚 Zizou Bergs 6-4, 6-3 at the Japan Open on Saturday.
The world number one hurt himself two days earlier in his opening match in Tokyo, crumpling to the ground before playing on with his ankle heavily strapped.
The Spaniard was left sweating on his fitness but he showed no evidence of discomfort as he returned to the court to beat world number 45 Bergs in front of an adoring Japanese crowd.
Alcaraz got the job done in an hour and 20 minutes and will face American Brandon Nakashima in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
鈥淚 was a bit worried before the match so I just wanted to warm up and let鈥檚 see how it鈥檚 going to feel,鈥 Alcaraz said.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 feel anything in the ankle, so after the warm-up I decided I can go and I can play.鈥
Alcaraz took to the court with white strapping visible underneath the sock on his left ankle.
He did not appear to be restricted in his movement but he limped briefly after chasing a shot that won Bergs a break early in the first set.
鈥淚n some movements I鈥檓 scared about going crazy so most of the time I take it a little easy,鈥 he said.
鈥淪ometimes I feel a little bit the ankle, which I would say is normal.鈥
Alcaraz is playing in Japan for the first time and delighted the crowd with a series of leaping forehand winners, claiming the first set despite having his service broken twice.
His service was broken three times overall and he blamed his injury for his lack of accuracy.
鈥淚 think because my thoughts were on the ankle, I forgot about doing a smooth movement, smooth serve,鈥 he said.
Alcaraz raced into an early lead in the second set but Bergs made him work hard for the victory with a gritty performance.
Alcaraz sealed the deal with a thumping forehand at the net that Bergs could not return into play.
Alcaraz will look to book his place in the semifinal when he faces world number 33 Nakashima, who beat Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics 7-5, 6-3.
鈥淚鈥檓 still taking care of the ankle and I will try to feel as good as today or even better,鈥 said Alcaraz.
鈥淭omorrow is going be a great challenge that I鈥檓 really excited about, and I鈥檓 ready for that.鈥
Denmark鈥檚 number three seed Holger Rune also advanced, beating American qualifier Ethan Quinn 6-4, 6-2.

  • Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said Saturday he has faith in veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny after first choice stopper Joan Garcia suffered a knee injury

BARCELONA: Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said Saturday he has faith in veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny after first choice stopper Joan Garcia suffered a knee injury.
Garcia will have surgery because of a meniscus injury and will miss between between four and six weeks, including Wednesday鈥檚 Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
Garcia was hurt at the end of Thursday鈥檚 win at Real Oviedo which left the champions two points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not good to not have Joan because he did a fantastic job. It was the last situation in the match against Oviedo. It happens,鈥 Flick told a news conference ahead of Barca鈥檚 game against Real Sociedad on Sunday.
鈥淣ow Tek (Szczesny) is back. And when you see the last season, the second part, we won almost every match. We won three trophies with him.
鈥淗e is a fantastic goalkeeper and a fantastic person. I have no doubts about that.鈥
Szczesny, 35, came out of retirement to sign for Barcelona last season when Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a knee injury.
The Polish goalkeeper established himself as first choice and helped Barcelona win a domestic treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
Flick also confirmed teenage winger Lamine Yamal would return to action after a groin injury.
鈥淲henever he鈥檚 on the bench or in the team, like tomorrow, he will have some minutes of course,鈥 said the coach.
鈥淓veryone is convinced that it鈥檚 the right moment to come back. We are happy we have him as an option for the match tomorrow.鈥

  • Jannik Sinner survived a scare to sink French qualifier Terence Atmane 6-4, 7-5, 6-0 at the China Open on Saturday as Iga Swiatek launched her title bid

BEIJING: Jannik Sinner survived a scare to sink French qualifier Terence Atmane 6-4, 7-5, 6-0 at the China Open on Saturday as Iga Swiatek launched her title bid.
The world number two Italian Sinner will face 57th-ranked Fabian Marozsan of Hungary in the Beijing quarter-finals.
鈥淚t was a very tough match today,鈥 four-time Grand Slam champion Sinner said. 鈥淚 felt like he was serving great.鈥
Sinner said that he lost a bit of concentration during the second set but quickly recovered to steamroll past the 68th-ranked Atmane in the deciding set.
鈥淚 started off very well in the third set then I saw (Atmane) struggling a bit physically.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not how you want to win a match but very happy to be again in the next round.鈥
Atmane declared it would be a fight with two aces in the first game and made Sinner work for the first set.
Atmane sent down six more aces in the second and broke the 24-year-old Sinner to force a deciding set.
With the Frenchman flagging, Sinner raced to victory.
In the women鈥檚 draw, Swiatek breezed past home player Yuan Yue, cruising into round three with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
The world number two from Poland next faces Colombia鈥檚 Camila Osorio, ranked 83rd.
Swiatek broke early to set the tone for an ultimately one-sided match against Yuan, winning the first set without dropping a game when the wildcard from China fired long.
Cheered on by her home crowd, the world no. 110 made a better fist of it in the second set but Swiatek wrapped things up when Yuan returned into the net.
Swiatek, who came to the Chinese capital after winning the title in Seoul, gave kudos to her opponent afterwards.
鈥淪he was reading the court pretty well,鈥 Swiatek said.
鈥淚t wasn鈥檛 easy and every game was tight.鈥
The six-time major champion is the top seed in Beijing after world number one Aryna Sabalenka withdrew with injury.
Swiatek won the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament in 2023 but missed the competition last year citing personal matters.
It later transpired she had accepted a one-month doping ban after testing positive for a prohibited substance.
鈥淚 have great memories,鈥 Swiatek said of her history in the Chinese capital.
鈥淏ut every tournament is a different story so you gotta start from the beginning and grind.鈥
Also in the women鈥檚 draw, world number five Mirra Andreeva of Russia swept aside Zhu Lin of China 6-2, 6-2 and American Jessica Pegula dispatched Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 6-0, 6-3.
