RIYADH: Publishers are seeing a growing demand from readers in 黑料社区 for Chinese literature as the two nations continue to strengthen cultural and political ties.

The Riyadh International Book Fair, which opened on Thursday, serves as a vital platform for connecting 黑料社区 with the global community.

The event emphasizes the importance of translating international works into Arabic to foster cultural exchange, particularly with China.

A leading participant at the book fair is Bayt El-Hekma, an organization which specializes in translating Chinese literature into Arabic. It has already translated classics including 鈥淭he Art of War鈥 and 鈥淭hree Kingdoms.鈥

Amr Moghith, the editorial manager of Bayt El-Hekma, said: 鈥淚 see a demand from Saudis to learn the Chinese language. With every year, the demand for Chinese books increases.鈥

鈥淭his has been achieved cumulatively. Initially, the demand for Chinese literature was somewhat weak, although people were curious about Chinese culture, which has a rich history extending back over 5,000 years.鈥

Moghith said that while there are significant differences in the cultures of the Chinese and Arab worlds, the recent translations, both ways, have led to a surge in interest.

鈥淭he demand has become greater, especially since it brings together the Chinese and Arab cultures, which have had longstanding relations since the Silk Road,鈥 he explained, referencing the ancient trade route.

He said Chinese was now being taught in Saudi schools. 鈥淭his is an important step that helps many Saudis learn about Chinese culture.

鈥淐hina wants to convey that it is not just a manufacturing or trading country, but a civilization with deep historical roots.

鈥淚t seeks to communicate with countries in the East and the Middle East, particularly given the old relations.鈥

In addition, Bayt El-Hekma, which was established in Egypt in 2011, aims to enrich the understanding of Chinese culture among Arabic speakers and operates an academy for those eager to learn the language.

黑料社区 has organized several events to boost relations with China.

For instance, on Sept. 26, the Museums Commission inaugurated the exhibition 鈥淭he Writings of Today Are a Promise for Tomorrow鈥 at the 黑料社区 Museum of Contemporary Art at Jax.

This event marks the first showcase of contemporary Chinese artists in 黑料社区.

It highlights the efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission to enhance cultural exchange.

RIYADH: Savvy Games Group has underlined its commitment to 黑料社区鈥檚 gaming and esports ecosystem, noting strong growth in its 2025 annual report.

The Riyadh-based company, fully owned by the Public Investment Fund, said it had made major strides across three pillars 鈥 game development and publishing, esports, and ecosystem building in the Kingdom.

The centerpiece was the Esports World Cup, held in Riyadh, which brought together 2,000 players from 200 clubs competing for a $70 million prize pool across 24 titles.

Under its 鈥渆cosystem building鈥 pillar the company launched the Savvy Academy, which focuses on games and esports education, as well as seven new partnerships to build the domestic sector.

Their 鈥淣ext-Gen鈥 program gives Saudi students hands-on experience in game development.

鈥淚t was so successful in terms of their enthusiasm, their immediate adoption to the technologies in terms of game design, concepting, taking the concept to ideation,鈥 Ward said. 鈥淲e think kids would love this. (They) were so amazing.鈥 

While strengthening the Kingdom鈥檚 domestic sector, Savvy also expanded its global publishing operations. The company acquired Scopely in 2023 for $4.9 billion, and since then the publisher has tripled in size.

We are working with the Ministry of Education on programs to roll out across 32,000 primary and secondary schools in the Kingdom, to give young people (the chance) to work with game development tools.

鈥淪copely is now the second largest mobile games publisher in the world,鈥 said Ward.  

In March this year, Scopely signed a $3.5 billion deal to acquire the video game division of Niantic Labs, including Pokemon Go.

Scopely鈥檚 鈥淢onopoly Go鈥 became the fastest game to reach $5 billion in revenue, and the company was named one of TIME鈥橲 100 Most Influential Companies for a second consecutive year.

At a media roundtable in Riyadh on Monday, Scopely co-founder and co-CEO Walter Driver said: 鈥淲e saw over 5 billion hours of play time last year and perhaps the most unique aspect of this experience was 50 percent of our players were active on any given day playing seven days a week.  

鈥淪ince we have started Scopely, we have had over 1 billion people download our products,鈥 he added.

With SR142 billion ($38 billion) allocated by PIF to accelerate gaming sector growth, Savvy said it would continue investing globally while anchoring development in 黑料社区.

Its strategy is aligned with the National Gaming and Esports Strategy to position the Kingdom as a global leader in the industry by 2030.

Prince Jalawi noted that relations between the two countries are 鈥渂ased on solid foundations of friendship and cooperation.鈥

RIYADH: A remote session discussing the use of artificial intelligence in libraries has been hosted by the Libraries Commission, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

The event explored the latest technologies and smart applications that can enhance library services, including smart search engines, personalized recommendations and assistive robots.

The discussion highlighted key global examples, such as Helsinki Central Library Oodi in Finland and the British Library, along with local AI applications.

Participants also addressed future challenges and opportunities, focusing on the commission鈥檚 role in promoting innovation and sustainability in the library sector.

The session was part of the commission鈥檚 efforts to align with the Kingdom鈥檚 Vision 2030 reform plan, which aims to build an advanced library sector and make knowledge accessible to all through innovative digital solutions.

Riyadh: The National Research and Development Center for Sustainable Agriculture, known as Estidamah, and NEOM food company Topian have been running their second greenhouse management training program in Riyadh.

The program, which began on Aug. 24 and ends on Thursday, aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices by providing comprehensive training in the management and operation of climate-controlled greenhouses.

Participants are learning about advanced systems for climate control, smart irrigation, crop monitoring, and energy-saving solutions, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

The curriculum also addresses key challenges such as water scarcity, soil health, and biodiversity conservation, the SPA added. 

This initiative is a part of Estidamah鈥檚 knowledge-transfer program, which seeks to improve farming efficiency and enhance food security. This is in line with the objectives of the country鈥檚 National Agriculture Strategy.
