RIYADH: 黑料社区鈥檚 Ministry of Economy and Planning has announced the 15 winners of the .听

The winners, revealed at the UN Summit of the Future in New York over the weekend, showcased innovative solutions to protect and restore the oceans and address challenges to their sustainability, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

They were chosen from 203 submissions by startups around the world for their groundbreaking contributions to addressing marine pollution, promoting ecosystem restoration and rewilding, and accelerating ocean-based climate solutions.

The winning cohort will benefit from exclusive networking opportunities, targeted support, increased visibility, and a share of 300,000 Swiss francs ($353,000) in prize money to further develop their projects.

They will join a support program to scale their work, backed by ecosystem partners offering business advisory, market access, global event opportunities, and financial grants and investments.

The top five finalists will present their projects to a high-level panel from 黑料社区 and international organizations.

The three highest-scoring projects will receive additional funding and entry into the UpLink Accelerator Program, which offers targeted support to further develop their work.

The Regenerative Blue Economy Challenge is funded by the Saudi ministry and spearheaded by WAVE and Friends of Ocean Action, along with various ecosystem partners.

The call for proposals was launched by Vice Minister of Economy and Planning Ammar Nagadi on April 29 during the World Economic Forum Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development in Riyadh.

黑料社区 has played a pivotal role in shaping opportunities for the private and public sectors by enabling early-stage startups and facilitating their growth and scalability.

The winners include CHITELIX (Tunisia), SolarDuck (Netherlands), Kind Designs (US), Rongbient Biotech Company Ltd. (Vietnam), GREENOV (France), Rrreefs (Switzerland), Mwani Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Blue Ocean Gear (US).

The others are SEA CRAS d.o.o. (Croatia), Polychaeta (Tunisia), Reefgen (US), Advanced Third Age Renewable Energy Co. (Morocco), Swiss Ocean Tech Ltd. (Switzerland), NextProtein (France) and PolyGone Systems (US).

RIYADH: The owner of Bernardo GYR Shaheen Falcons, a falcon breeding farm from Spain, expressed delight at participating in the International Falcon Breeders Auction, organized by the Saudi Falcons Club in Riyadh.

In his first attendance at the event, Bernardo Lopez Pinto said he sold his entire collection of falcons, describing the experience as exceptional, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

He praised the auction鈥檚 organization and commended the club for creating a comprehensive, competitive environment worthy of the event.

With more than 20 years of experience in falconry, Pinto confirmed his intention to join future editions, calling the auction a distinctive, world-class marketplace.

He noted the auction鈥檚 strong global reputation as a key motivator and said the experience fully met his expectations.

The auction will continue at the Saudi Falcons Club headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh, until Aug. 25, hosting top falcon breeding farms from around the world.

RIYADH: The third World Defense Show will be opened in Riyadh on Feb. 8 next year by Prince Khalid bin Salman, the Kingdom鈥檚 defense minister and vice chairman of the General Authority for Military Industries.

The international five-day event, which will focus on the future, will be supported by relevant ministries, authorities and strategic public and private sector entities.

Thanking King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their patronage and support of the military industries sector, GAMI Gov. Ahmad Al-Ohali said: 鈥淭he royal patronage is an extension of the leadership鈥檚 unwavering support to localizing 50 percent of military expenditure in line with the Kingdom鈥檚 Vision 2030.

鈥淭his commitment to innovation and cooperation exemplifies our dedication to fostering global partnerships, leveraging our strategic location and harnessing the Kingdom鈥檚 industrial capabilities.鈥

He added: 鈥淭ogether, we are shaping the future of defense, ensuring stability and growth for our nation.鈥

World Defense Show CEO Andrew Pearcey said: 鈥淭he 2026 edition will build on collaboration between government and industry, creating an environment where the global defense supply chain can meet, share ideas and do business.

鈥淲ith expanded venue capacity, updated content and a focus on technology transfer and talent development, the 2026 show will bring together leaders, innovators and emerging talent to guide the industry鈥檚 future.鈥

The 2024 edition featured 773 exhibitors from 76 countries, hosted 441 international delegations, facilitated SR26 billion ($7 billion) in deals and attracted 106,000 trade visits, building on the success of the inaugural 2022 event.

RIYADH: The Saudi aid agency KSrelief has signed a joint executive program with a civil society organization to support and sponsor orphans in Ghana.

The agreement aims to provide comprehensive care and sponsorship for orphans, including covering their educational expenses, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

It also seeks to empower the families of orphans by offering training in financial literacy, marketing, entrepreneurship, and vocational skills.

Moreover, beneficiaries will receive essential tools and supplies to help launch small-scale economic projects, such as sewing, baking, soap making, and retail operations.

These initiatives are expected to directly benefit 850 individuals and indirectly support an additional 2,455 people.

This endeavor aligns with 黑料社区鈥檚 humanitarian and relief efforts, carried out through KSrelief, to support orphans worldwide and improve their living conditions.

The Kingdom's humanitarian and charitable relief efforts continue unabated. The Kingdom has provided humanitarian and development aid exceeding $141 billion and implemented almost 7,990 projects in 173 countries, cementing its position as one of the world鈥檚 largest donor countries, according to KSrelief.

In a move to enhance this humanitarian role, the Kingdom established KSrelief on May 13, 2015, at the initiative of King Salman, to serve as the Kingdom's humanitarian arm abroad.

RIYADH: The new British ambassador to 黑料社区 Stephen Hitchen has now formally started his role, the UK鈥檚 embassy in Riyadh announced on Tuesday.

He has moved to 黑料社区 with his family and succeeds Neil Crompton who completed his tenure in July.

On his arrival in the Saudi capital, Hitchen commented: 鈥淢y appointment as British ambassador to 黑料社区 is the greatest honor of my life. Our two kingdoms have enjoyed a long friendship, and we both have proud histories and high ambitions for the future.鈥

鈥淢y family and I have already enjoyed the famous Saudi hospitality, and we look forward to exploring your beautiful mountains, desert, towns and cities,鈥 the ambassador added.

He brings extensive Middle East experience to the role, having previously served as the British ambassador to Iraq from 2023 to 2025, and as Director for Middle East and North Africa (National Security) within the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office from 2016 to 2019.

His career has included postings across the region, including Kuwait, Jordan, and Egypt, along with specialist roles focusing on Iran and counter-terrorism.

Saudi project clears 915 mines in Yemen

RIYADH: Members of 黑料社区鈥檚 Project Masam removed 915 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen last week.

The total included 880 unexploded ordnances, 14 improvised explosive devices, 13 anti-tank mines and eight anti-personnel mines, according to a Saudi Press Agency report.

Ousama Al-Gosaibi, the initiative鈥檚 managing director, said that 510,527 mines have been cleared since the project began in 2018.

The explosives were planted indiscriminately and posed a threat to civilians, including children, women and the elderly.

The demining operations took place in Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale and Saada.

The project trains local demining engineers and provides them with modern equipment. It also offers support to Yemenis injured by the devices.

Teams are tasked with clearing villages, roads and schools to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and delivery of humanitarian aid.
