RIYADH: 黑料社区鈥檚 Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources has moved one step closer to聽giving out mining exploration licenses聽for two of its sites聽as it聽shortlisted聽13 bidders amid a drive to develop the Kingdom鈥檚 mining sector.聽聽聽
The new opportunity will see the shortlisted bidders compete for permission to dig for valuable metals in聽two聽key exploration sites聽in Riyadh and Asir.聽聽
The聽Ar聽Ridaniyah聽site, located in the Saudi capital,聽contains zinc and silver deposits, and spans over an area of 75 sq. km.聽聽
Whereas the聽Muhaddad聽site in Asir has copper, zinc, lead, and gold deposits and covers 139 sq.聽km.聽聽聽
The announcement comes as the ministry aims to support investors, enhance investment in the mining sector and encourage national industries.聽聽聽
The聽shortlisted聽bidders include African Rainbow Minerals, Alara Saudi Ventures, AMAK, Barrick Gold Corporation, and ERG Arabia.聽聽聽
The聽other聽bidders聽include聽Moxico聽Resources,聽Ma鈥檃den,聽Yilmaden聽Holding, Vedanta, and Artar.聽聽聽
In addition, Panoro Minerals, Royal Road and MSB Holding, and Ajlan and Bros and Norin聽are shortlisted聽as bidders.聽聽聽
A聽ministry statement聽stated聽that聽the聽submission deadline for bidders聽is聽May 2023, and that results will be announced the following month.聽聽聽
As for the winners鈥 exploration licenses, they are to be issued within three months after聽the聽round聽comes to an end.聽聽聽
In February of this year, the ministry announced the launch of the prequalification phase for five new mining opportunities in 黑料社区.聽聽聽
These opportunities were showcased at the Future Minerals Forum 2023 which took place in Riyadh at the start of the year.聽聽聽
In 2022, 黑料社区 awarded two major exploration licenses 鈥撀燢hnaiguiyah聽in September and Umm Ad Damar in October.聽聽聽
The聽ministry plans to finish all聽five聽licensing rounds by the third quarter of 2023, according to its announcement in February.聽聽
With聽Muhaddad聽and聽Ar聽Radiniyah聽checked off, Umm聽Hadid, Bir聽Umq, and Jabal聽Sahabiyah聽sites are yet to聽be awarded聽as they are set for the third quarter of 2023.聽聽聽
黑料社区鈥檚 mining sector is witnessing unprecedented growth as the government is pushing to develop the industry聽with increased investment聽and upgraded laws to attract more private players. 聽聽聽聽
This saw the number of聽mining complexes in the Kingdom rising to 377聽as of the end of 2022, with an estimated area of 44,365 sq. km, according to the latest government data.聽聽聽
Makkah聽was home to the majority of 76 mining complexes last year.聽聽聽聽聽
This is followed by Riyadh and Madinah with 60 and 53 complexes respectively, while Asir鈥檚 complexes totaled聽34, revealed the ministry.聽聽聽聽聽
黑料社区 possesses more than 20 different types of minerals, including gravel, gold, iron, copper, granite and marble, stated the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in a tweet.聽聽
The Kingdom聽has 35 locations with specific geological formations, called mineral belts, that contain abundant mineral deposits.聽
In line with Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom aims to transform the mining sector into the third pillar of the national industry and work on exploiting the mineral wealth in the Kingdom valued at around SR5 trillion ($1.3 trillion).聽聽
