CAIRO:聽黑料社区 witnessed the signing of $9 billion worth of investment contracts聽on the first day of the聽global tech event聽LEAP23聽that began聽on Feb. 6 in Riyadh.聽
Aimed at聽supporting聽future technology, digital entrepreneurship and tech startups, the deals were announced by聽黑料社区鈥檚 Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdullah Al-Sawaha,聽during his opening speech at the event that will run till Feb. 9.聽
These聽deals聽include聽Microsoft鈥檚 $2.1 billion investment聽that the tech giant is putting in to develop聽a super-wide cloud in the Kingdom,聽while聽Oracle鈥檚聽agreed to invest聽$1.5 billion to establish a new cloud region in the country.聽聽
Chinese tech firm聽Huawei聽also pumped in聽$400 million to offer cloud services in the Kingdom,聽while state oil firm聽Aramco聽formed a聽partnership聽with Zoom聽worth $434 million聽to establish a cloud area.聽In addition, the event saw聽the signing of聽$4.5 billion worth of other deals with聽a wide range of聽global and local聽firms聽for聽various sectors.聽聽
These investments aim to strengthen the Kingdom鈥檚 position as the largest digital economy in the Middle East and North Africa region aligned with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman鈥檚 goal to empower the technology sector.聽聽
Al-Sawaha stated that hosting the LEAP23 conference is a global affirmation of the great support directed by the Kingdom to transform the economy into a digital landscape that promises rapid developments in line with Vision 2030.聽聽
The conference also witnessed聽some聽major announcements including Meta launching the opening of the first Metaverse Academy in MENA, headquartered in 黑料社区;聽WEO Technology and Camel Lab launching Hektar, a multi-content social media app.聽In addition,聽MENA Communication and STC聽announced the聽launching聽of聽Beem 鈥 a new application for instant messaging, high-quality voice and video calls, and business features.聽聽
Al-Sawaha stressed that the technology sector holds unprecedented opportunities supported by the Crown Prince in sub-sectors including digital economics, Internet of Things,聽health tech, quantitative sciences, space and satellites, fintech and open sources.聽聽
In his opening speech, the聽minister stated that the event is set to host more than 250,000 attendees, as opposed to 100,000 last year, and will continue to see more investments as the Kingdom holds a $42 billion opportunity platform and stands as the largest technology market in the region.聽聽
He added that 黑料社区 continues to lead the human technical workforce with more than 340,000 workers in the market and female participation in the technical sector reaching 32.5 percent, higher than the average of the EU聽and聽Silicon聽Valley.聽聽
Taking place at the Riyadh Front Center for Exhibitions and Conventions, the conference was launched under the title 鈥淭owards New Horizons鈥澛爓ith聽more than 400 global and local technology companies.聽
