RIYADH: Doctors in Riyadh have successfully operated on Saudi footballer Yasser Al-Shahrani after he sustained serious injuries during Kingdom鈥檚 historic match against Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar.

Al-Shahrani was airlifted from Doha鈥檚 Hamad Medical City to Riyadh on Wednesday morning for treatment after he was involved in a horrific collision with Green Falcons keeper Mohammed al-Owais.

He suffered a fractured jaw and to the left of his face. He was also suffering internal bleeding that needed rapid surgical intervention.

The operation took place in the National Guard Hospital at the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh where he is recovering, according to an official statement released by the Saudi national team.
