PHNOM PENH: United States President Joe Biden said on Sunday that his country, Japan and South Korea were 鈥渕ore aligned than ever鈥 on North Korea, which he added has continued its 鈥減rovocative behavior.鈥
Speaking in Cambodia after a trilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Biden called their countries 鈥渃ritical allies鈥 that share the United States鈥 concerns about North Korea鈥檚 missile tests.
South Korea鈥檚 Yoon said the North鈥檚 recent provocations showed its regime鈥檚 鈥渘ature against humanitarianism,鈥 while Japan鈥檚 Kishida said its actions were 鈥渦nprecedented鈥 and more provocations could be expected from Pyongyang.
鈥淭his trilateral summit is timely given we are expecting further provocation,鈥 Kishida said in opening remarks at the three-way meeting.
鈥淚 look forward to strengthening the coordination between the US, South Korea, and Japan to respond firmly鈥 to North Korea鈥檚 actions, he added.
Biden said he also discussed with them expanding coordinated support for Ukraine in the war with Russia, maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and working toward 鈥渃ommon goals of a free and open Indo-Pacific.鈥
