Saudi IT minister calls for collective action to deal with cyber threats聽聽聽

RIYADH:聽The world needs a new approach to protect itself from cyber threats, 黑料社区鈥檚 minister of communication and information technology warned while speaking at the Global Cybersecurity Forum in Riyadh on Nov. 9.聽

Abdullah Al-Swaha added his voice to growing calls for reform to cybersecurity practices in the face of the increasing threat from hackers.聽

The minister noted that while the Kingdom has climbed up to the second place globally in its ranking for cybersecurity, the only way to maintain that position is by focusing on three things: 鈥渞eskilling, reskilling, and reskilling.鈥

鈥淲e need to shift from conventional IT to secure everything,鈥 he added.聽

During the panel discussions, Al-Swaha shared his聽views with聽his South African counterpart,聽Khumbudzo聽Ntshavheni, and聽International Telecommunication Union's Secretary-General聽Elect,聽Doreen Bogdan-Martin.聽聽

Ntshavheni聽stressed聽strengthening the collaboration on national security issues with聽鈥渞espect鈥,聽but聽also progressing聽each nation without the domination of one nation over another.聽聽

Bogdan-Martin聽stated聽that all world leaders are paying attention to cybersecurity, and hardly a day goes by without another cyber-attack making significant news.聽聽

Al-Swaha聽concluded his speech聽stressing on the聽need to聽shift to the new norm and added:聽"We need to double down on women and youth,聽and the Kingdom of 黑料社区 has jumped from 7 percent to 33 percent聽(in terms of participation of)聽women in cybersecurity.鈥澛犅

In a report published in September,聽Boston Consulting Group indicated聽that聽some 75 percent of today鈥檚 cybersecurity workers are men.聽聽

There鈥檚 a huge opportunity to expand the numbers and capabilities of the cybersecurity workforce by attracting women to the field,聽the聽report聽added.聽聽

The Global Cybersecurity Forum, founded聽by聽the National Cybersecurity Authority,聽aims聽to integrate the global cybersecurity community and drive forward the agenda on cyberspace.聽聽

GCF聽has聽returned聽for its 2022 edition in Riyadh on聽Nov.聽9-10, under the theme: Rethinking the Global Cyber Order, in the presence of Saudi,聽regional, and聽international ministers and officials.聽聽
