- US asked countries who had waivers for Iranian oil to stop purchasing it by May 1
- Iranian deputy oil minister said they are doing this because they do not believe that the sanctions are legitimate
DUBAI: Iran has mobilized all its resources to sell oil in a 鈥済rey market,鈥 bypassing US sanctions that Tehran sees as illegitimate, state media quoted Deputy Oil Minister Amir Hossein Zamaninia as saying on Sunday.
The United States told buyers of Iranian oil to stop purchases by May 1 or face sanctions, ending six months of waivers that had allowed Iran鈥檚 biggest customers to import limited volumes.
鈥淲e have mobilized all of the country鈥檚 resources and are selling oil in the 鈥榞rey market鈥,鈥 Zamaninia was quoted by state news agency IRNA as saying. 鈥淭his is not smuggling. This is countering sanctions which we do not see as just or legitimate.鈥
