PARIS: World leaders expressed shock and horror on Tuesday after the suicide bombing in Manchester which killed at least 22 people, including children.

Prime Minister Theresa May called it an 鈥渁ppalling terrorist attack鈥� and suspended her campaign ahead of a general election on June 8, as did the chief opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Labour Party chief Jeremy Corbyn tweeted: 鈥淭errible incident in Manchester. My thoughts are with all those affected and our brilliant emergency services.鈥�
President Donald Trump condemned the 鈥渆vil losers鈥� behind the attack, saying: 鈥淚 won鈥檛 call them monsters because they would like that term. They would think that鈥檚 a great name.
鈥淪o many young, beautiful, innocent people living and enjoying their lives murdered,鈥� he said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel voiced 鈥渟orrow and horror,鈥� adding: 鈥淭his suspected terrorist attack will only strengthen our resolve to work with our British friends against those who plan and execute such inhuman acts. I assure the people in Britain: Germany stands by your side.鈥�
Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was ready to increase anti-terror cooperation with Britain after 鈥渢his cynical, inhuman crime.鈥�
鈥淲e expect that those behind it will not escape the punishment they deserve,鈥� he said.
French President Emmanuel Macron voiced 鈥渉orror and shock鈥� and said he planned to speak to the British prime minister.
Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said it was an example of 鈥渢he most cowardly terrorism鈥� that was aimed 鈥渟pecifically and knowingly鈥� at young people.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the attack was 鈥渆specially vile, especially criminal, especially horrific because it appears to have been deliberately directed at teenagers.鈥�
He added: 鈥淭his is an attack on innocents. Surely there is no crime more reprehensible than the murder of children. This is a direct and brutal attack on young people everywhere, on freedom everywhere.鈥�
United Nations chief Antonio Guterres expressed 鈥渉is deep sympathy and solidarity to the people and government of the United Kingdom鈥� and said he hoped 鈥渢hat those responsible for this unjustifiable violence will be swiftly brought to justice.鈥�
Pope Francis said he was 鈥渄eeply saddened to learn of the injury and tragic loss of life caused by the barbaric attack in Manchester,鈥� and said he sought 鈥淕od鈥檚 blessings of peace, healing and strength upon the nation.鈥�
Prime Minister Mark Rutte said: 鈥淭errible news from Manchester where a great evening ended in tragedy. Our thoughts are with the victims.鈥�
